Just got back from a 23.5 mile bike ride with winds that had to be about 30 mph in my face most of the way. I guess that's my punishment for only riding the damn thing once a month, if that.............

try coon hunting with 3 dogs in the middle of summer starting at 6pm and ending at 6am tracking them thru several woods crossing numerous creeks and a fence or two. now that is a workout!

what kind of bike do you ride? I ride a Giant Yukon SE...
I have it in the color shown. I love this bike.... it's been great in the past 3 years I've had it. No really major problems except for a mix-up where they put the wrong chain on it, and I kept bending the links of the chain. That problem has since been fixed with the installation of a new crankset and chain. Replaced under warrantee...

Sid,
I used to ride that same distance about 3-4 times a week about a year ago......Then got too busy, put it off, etc etc....
Dan,
If you haven't treated yourself to a ride on a full suspension bike(when you go out looking), do it......your **** will thank you, ESPECIALLY if you plan on doing it fairly often.
In my systems showcase pics that I hope to have up this weekend, you'll see a pic of my bike....comment comment comment comment. bitchy. -
I have a Trek Fuel 80 that I've had for about a year and a half. (mine's white, with a little bit of red, instead of the red/black in the picture) I have 455 miles on it, which is not NEARLY enough considering how long I've had it.......
It's fun to go out riding though......I highly recommend getting a bike if ya wanna have some outside time......comment comment comment comment. bitchy. -
Just goes to show the price ranges in bikes.... my bike was $300 total! I can't justify a $1200 bike... But if you ride it a lot, all the more power to ya. I've put over 500 miles on my bike, according to the old computer (which died at the end of the summer). Time for a new computer, and a new tally :-). I don't ride my bike nearly as much as I used to. I guess not riding it to a summer job every day kinda takes away from my saddle time. I still like to do singletrack on the weekends, tho.

My whole plan was to ride it several times a week, which (with my job that requires a LOT of traveling) doesn't always happen. I was going to get a front suspension only, but then I went back to test out the full suspension and the difference was NIGHT AND DAY!!!!! True, it was over double the cost, but (with the combination of full suspension and biking shorts) my **** has thanked me every single time.
I was born with a curse.......that curse is that I require NO salesperson to upsell me........EVER. I can go in looking to get something basic, and I'll talk myself right up the chain EVERY single time. I've tried to make exceptions to my destined path, but now that it's been 30 years, I just budget for it.comment comment comment comment. bitchy. -

Well, at least one of us admits it...
There's a spiritualist who will remove the curse for $199.99, then again for $299.99 you can get a palm reading and a one-year waranty as well...More later,
Tour...

Nice to see others enjoy this hobby too. Later -
brettw22,
I come from BMX.I used to ride alot when I was younger.ground tricks, arial tricks,it didn't even matter what kind of tricks you wanted.....I did em.I had many bikes in my time as I worked for a bike shop.I had GT,Mongoose,Haro,Koahara.I used to buy frame and fork sets and buid my bikes how I felt.I had an array of seats, rims, pads, seats and such.I built a shed and hung all my frames around it and went in and desided which setup I wanted to ride today.......I even joined a trick team.
I want to get down to the bike shops and get back into it.Treks from what I hear make really good touring bikes.Nice and light.

Buy cheap and get cheap.......justify as you see fit.Dan

mantis- all I'm saying is that for my riding style, I wouldn't buy a $1200 bike. I like to do more casual trail riding. I'm not going to go doing 6ft dropoffs or anything like that. I just like to cruise around a mountain trail. My $300 bike does that for me just fine, and when I feel like going a little crazy, it holds up.
You are correct, though... I'd gone through several sub-$100 wal-mart bikes before I got my first job and had enough money to buy my Giant.
Not always true in audio, though. Blose is more expensive than Polk (sometimes) and who has the better quality??? I've listened to $15000 speakers that don't sound any better than some $1500 polks. Go figure...

I like to ride when I can.. nothing to extreme.. because I hate wiping out and flat tires. ha ha ha.
my bike
I ride about 7 to 15 miles every time I go for a ride.. which is about twice a week in the summer and fall. Still to cold right now to ride with shorts on. brrrr!PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

On a mountain bike or a road bike? I'm not sayin that the distance in and of itself was somethin huge........but with 30+ mph winds, it felt like every tenth of a 100 mile ride........Sucked. I don't get into the 10 speedish kinda bikes at all. That, plus I probably have a hundred pounds on ya anyway Ron.comment comment comment comment. bitchy. -
Just hack'n on ya.
Didn't realize it was mountain, I was a flat land speeder. Top speed was 55mph at a Palm Desert race in CA.If...

Well, it's a mountain bike. The trail is mostly paved, but some good undulations goin on with the trail. I've been off and on the mountains, but until I get back up to speed and can do my general 26-30 mile ride in just over an hour, I'm not goin on the mountains yet.........comment comment comment comment. bitchy. -
Trials Anyone?
Anyone ever heard of this extreme branch of mountain biking?- It's a cross between freestyle, bmx, freeride, and urban. I've been riding trials for about 2 years now.
For all you people who think real men ride hardtails, Try riding a COMPLETELY RIGID bike. And it's not a budget thing either, I built my Planet X for $1300. Not only that, I've done 6-foot dropoffs, 5-foot gaps, and 2 1/2 foot bunnyhops with zero travel.
Fun Stuff!

I wouldn't question your manhood because you ride a hardtail or completely rigid.......I'd question your intelligence......comment comment comment comment. bitchy. -
actually, that's a little to close to the truth for comfort.
but if you really want to see what I'm talking about, check out:

Some really cool videos of stuff you'd never image could be done on a mountain bike. Worth checking out. -
Since I finally got all my pics offloaded from the cam that I had borrowed, I figured that I'd post a pic of my bike since someone had asked. Little late, but oh well.......comment comment comment comment. bitchy.

Excuse me folks..but those guys are **** sick!!!! Adam Burns and Danny Holroyd on Trialskings are absolutely amazing. I skateboarded for almost 10 years and did rather well..and in doing so/learning exactly how difficult the sport is, I earned lots of respect for bikers. To call these guys accurate or talented is a gross understatement. I just don't see why they don't have pegs. Bikers with that skill should add the versatility of pegs on their bikes. They are doing WAY too many manuals. Perhaps it gets them adapted to spatial constrictions that aren't inherent in their usual bikings....er some ridiculous reason like that. Those guys need pegs!!!Two Channel Main

Yes Yes Yes Yes,
Liquid- you see what I mean, Trials riding is off the hook! I love it! I use the same blue Planet-X frame that they do with the same On-One fork, and it rides so sweet. But the riding you see on the page is what I'm shooting for. - Did you download the two big videos? Toxicity and Otherside. Off the hook. -
