I am looking at replacing my old (stereo) receiver with a surround sound home theater. My goal is to take advantage of 5.1 Speakers (RM6005 & PSW202 Subwoofer) and also be able to drive two traditional floor speakers in another room from a different source.

I have looked at several choices and am currently considering the Denon 2803 (which can readily drive 5.1 + 2 channels (off two different inputs) and the Onkyo TX-SR700 which can route two different sources but is limited two a maximum of 6 channels at any time.

The rooms involved are relatively small (approx. 250 sq. ft. each).

I am concerned that neither receiver has the option of unfiltered LFE output. However, tying the PSW202 to the front outputs per Polk's recommendation might lose any special effects LFE from other channels.

Both of these receivers cost a little more than my ideal (MSRP $700 & $800), but for the features I don't think I will do much better.

Any suggestions or advice on these or other receivers? My ideal features would be:

5.1 surround plus 2 channels (note I could drive my old receiver from pre-outs if need be.

A good match to the above Polk Speakers for both HiFi Stereo listening and full surround sound special effects in the low frequency range.

I think that 80+ watt/channel would be more than sufficient for my needs.

Regards,

Tom
