Emotiva

Emotiva is apparently a very polarizing subject. I can understand why. People that have spent serious money don't appreciate other people stating they get similar results for a fraction of the price. Nobody wants to think they spent more than necessary. It also indirectly implies that the big spenders have been cheated. Them's fighting words, as they say...
Sound quality is currently still a very subjective topic, so there's no proving value for money. That's just opinion.
So, I would say that if people are happy with the Emotiva gear, than that's really great for them and the Emotiva company is doing a fine service for those people.
The heated discussions seem to stem from the Emotiva owners not just being satisfied, but insisting their gear is the equal to more established and much more expensive gear. This is a fools argument. As I've already stated, sound quality is subjective.
I've never heard any of their products myself. But I will say I don't like the way they look. If a company is going to offer high quality for low cost, I prefer it look like the money was spent on what counts. The Emotiva products look far to flashy for my taste. Flashy looks are fine if the product costs a fortune, but if it's a budget component, flashiness is tacky IMO. I don't want fake wood trim on the interior of my honda civic if you know what I mean.
But with all that said, I think most people will buy the cheapest product that meets their requirements. The Emotiva people are lucky their requirements have been met so very cheaply.

Ah yes, there is never a shortage of Emo threads here at Club Polk. I say five pages before this one dies a horrible death.

Again????...
This is my first and last post on the subject: If one really wants to buy a BMW but can't afford it, and instead, buy a Kia and pretend that it drives like a BMW, then I'd say more power to him.
Tom, I'll take Jack on the rock straight. Cheers.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -

Time will let the hype die...most of the people who write the lengthy blogs haven't played with much else...I along with many others on this forum have seen the 'hype of the year' type electronics all to often...these type of people are usually new to audio or haven't played around with enough stuff to think outside the box i.e. all solid state amplifiers sound the same and CD players are all the same...cables are snake oil and every so often a Roger Russell link and DBT's are thrown in for good measure.

I never have understood the idea behind light beer. That has to be one of the most useless ideas ever conceived, yet it is a perfect example of the gullibility of the average consumer. To stay on-topic, I guess one could consider Emotiva to be the audio equivalent of light beer.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

Plenty more people buy Honda Civic than Bugatti Veyron That's mostly because they could not afford to buy the Veyron, not because they think the Civic is a better machine.
I love my Emo XPA-5 because I only pay $800 for a brand new piece of separate, and it can make my lsi set perform a lot better than plugging them directly to my AVR. That is a stated fact, to me.
To me, it's a better value to own a brand new piece that wouldn't make me disappointed at how it performs. I have the piece of mind that I am the first owner of it, that it hasn't gone through the wear and tear of heat and time or the abuse of its previous owner(s).
Of course, it's still the first amp I have owned, ever. In the future, if I have enough money to "upgrade", I will try other brands of so-called better hardware, no doubt about it. That's why I am hanging at AV forums, to learn and to prepare "upgrading" my AV set.
During that "upgrading" journey, I will have some downfalls --- getting scammed, or purchasing a bad piece of AV device, blah blah blah; I will also have plenty of happiness --- collecting knowledges, yearning for the AV nirvana
So right now, I can proudly say that my Emo XPA-5 has made me quite happy, at this moment! It doesn't matter if it's a Civic or a Veyron. The fact of the matter is it's my baby, nicely located inside my entertainment center, and is such a necessary piece of hardware within the scheme.
