Does using preouts cancel signal?

Just wondering if using the preout cancels the receivers amp channel for that speaker? Could I still use the available power to bi-amp?

Not a good idea it would work but the level gain could be different causing many audible problems.

It depends on the AVR, but usually Yes. It probably won't make any audible difference, but you could try it.

So even if I wanted to just run the fronts in another room off the AVR's amp-they are not functioning anymore due to using the preouts? But give it a shot anyhow.........

I have not tried to see if my AVR amp is still getting a signal with the preouts being used. I can tell you it gets as hot just using preouts as it did when using the amp.

I know with my pioneer you have to turn off the amp section or both will run.

The AVR (poineer) is very warm, as usual. I did not see a setting in the menu to turn off the amps.

Depends on the AVR - the Yamaha manual explicitly recommends NOT running pre-outs and speaker connections at the same time.

Not sure if the universe implodes or not if I were to try... :D

Do not bi amp using your AVR and any other amp. IMO that is a waste of time. Get an amp that will power the speakers you have and use the AVR as a pre.

Most AVR's amps will not match the same output as a good seperate amp.

My manual lists nothing about it. The AVR is as warm as it was when i was running the speakers off of it. I have the extra set of wires sitting there, and an unused ampsection from the AVR. At the very least could i power another set of mains/bookshelves in another room? Hate knowing there is unused 'power'-especially with the heat ouput reminding me its drawing it down.

Normally, thats a no. When useing the preout for that channel, usually you can't use the receivers amp section for that particular channel. You might send that receiver into protect or something worse. Not worth trying to bi-amp with a receiver anyway, better choice is to get a different amp.

So, I could possibly hurt something by trying/doing. Thanks. Although I wish PIONEER would do something about all this heat created by an AVR thats not even using the amp section (except for the rear backs), the fronts, center and rear surrounds are coming off the sony amp. Oh well, know of one that allows usage when using preouts or doesn't draw down the juice when doing so for nothing.
