Yeah, the wife just did our taxes in TurboTax. We were hoping to get close to the ~$6k we got last year but no dice...we ended up with a measley $8k!

I guess kids are good for something after all!

Might be interesting to run the taxes on TT then with a CPA to see if it's worth it. My tax situation isn't that complex so I kind of doubt it.

Looks like I'll be paying about 2k. Last year my paycheck went up about $25 a week. Looks like uncle Sam wants it all back. I wish the gov. would have asked me before taking less tax from my paychecks. Knowing that I'd have to pay it back. Oh well, It's just money

I agree with you on H&R Block, but on tax software? Sorry, but you're reaching. There are situations where a CPA is needed for personal tax work but that's the exception instead of the rule these days. If that discomforts you, get yourself into small businesses or non-profits, both of which still benefit from a good accountant.

You guys getting a big refund need to adjust your withholding. Screw letting the Gubment keep it for 14 months. Get some discipline and put it in a credit union account weekly or a 401K. Just saying.

I got laid off, made less than last year, getting less in return because I've been collecting unemployment and need to pay taxes on it, and I'm getting fined because I live in the awesome state of Massachusetts and have no health care.

yeah, my post was just an accountants attempt at humor...

I do corporate tax work (big $$$) but you are right about most individuals being fine just using turbo tax.

I just did a co-workers taxes for her. She paid in $187 in federal income tax and is getting back $5884!!!!!!!!! She has 2 kids and gets earned income, head of household and all that. It doesn't pay to be single with no kids that's for sure. Ok, I take that back. For ONE month a year it doesn't pay to not have kids lol.

The above is partly why we're in such a fix. I always only got back 300.00 and put in 3 to 5k every yr. for over 10 yrs at least. Yeah, no kids and not married. But when I got married I got back 100.00. this system is Fubar!

Looks like it's as simple as what they say. If your employer didn't already grant you $400 in spring, then you get a $400 tax credit. Interesting. New turbo?

Stimulus.I like the extra money but come on.What the hell are those democrats thinking.Didnt they give away enough money last year, not to mention all those rich execs getting even more free money as a BONUS.Spend, Spend, Spend. And Bailouts.
Now if several million people got that extra 400.00 then thats quite a bit of money thay COULD have kept to cover a fraction of all that money they threw at the banks.

Wait.... fbm211, are you getting the $400 on your taxes? I'm filing now, and it's saying that it's going to be paid out in small amounts due to smaller employer witholding throughout 2010. What BS.

I reviewed my tax situation a month ago using Turbotax and it said I need to pay an additional $60k between the Fed and State. I am not oppose to pay taxes, but I will pay my fair share only.

That was not a bad enough news. The bad news is that my company was forced to merge with another company. My boss, the CEO, was terminated 3 weeks ago and 15% of the employees was let go yesterday. I was told to look for a new job because the company will TRY to keep me until the end of March so that I can complete all the required works.

Maybe i'll run the info through turbotax just to see what's up.
