Lsi Fx ceiling mount?

Can you mount the Lsi Fx surrounds on the ceiling? I have a couch against the back wall. I was wondering if the surrounds would work properly if they were mounted to the ceiling to the left and right equal distances away from you. The distance from front left and surround left are the same distance away from the left ear. The surrounds would be next to the back wall. Sorry, I'm not explaining this well.

    madmax001,
sound wise yes you could get them to sound fantastic properly placed.
No you can't hang them from the ceiling safly as they are keyholed.Buying mounts ,**** I'll be raw..suck.They will look stupid like a hanging effin spaceship from your ceiling on a volgue or whatever universal mounting you come up with. You know wit proper placenet on the back wall, they can perform very well.

The problem with a back wall mount is that my couch is right against the back wall. They would end up being right next to me. I could do a side wall mount now that I look at it a little closer. I have a long narrow livingroom with the front and couch on the long walls. To make it worse, the couch is sitting out in the room against a small wall which is sitting in front of steps going upstairs. It may not matter because I'm still considering lsi9's instead of lsifx. At least those I could put on stands and place wherever I wish. Any comments which speaker would be better for me. I want it for both HT and multichannel HS.

    Hey Mad,
could you take a pic of your room.I would like to see this.I can figure it out for you.You know Polk from what I have heard might be releasing inwall Lsi series speakers. That would solve all your problems.....Inceiling speakers for theater are awesome.

That's a good idea but I found a set of lsi9's this morning! (Thanks to Hoosier, he sent me a link for a pair). At $529 I couldn't refuse. I had thought about in-walls at one point but kinda forgot about it after deciding on an lsi set. I'm ready to roll but now I have bills to pay... I guess that's how it goes.

    Max,

Congrats on the deal for the 9's. I'm curious though.....I got the impression that you were somewhat limited on space due to couch locations and wall limitations, so it seems a little weird that you'd get the 9's which are gonna require a lot more space than the f/x's.......... Hope they work out for ya though....

btw......did you get a new pair of 9's or used?

I did a ceiling mount with my f/x500is because I have no back wall (stupid open concept floorplan). Works great, nice panning from L to R and F to R. Didn't use the "spaceship" mounts either. Installed four 25 lb. drywall anchors in the ceiling (per speaker). Used eyebolts and eyehooks to hang them. The gap between the speaker back and the ceiling is about 1-1.25".

I think that what Dan was saying was that with the speaker mounted to the ceiling like that, it would LOOK like a spaceship mounted that way......regardless what mode of transportation you choose, I would think that on the ceiling, it would look pretty out of place........

Even though I decided to go with the '9s I would like to see what the ceiling mounted ones would look like. I went with the '9s because I have a lot of space to the left and right but little from front to back. I also figured they might be a little easier to re-sell than the lsifx in case all does not work out. This is more of an experiment than anything else and if it doesn't work out after a decent amount of time I'll go back to my SDA's.
