Dead Tweeter

Last June (2009) I replaced my old SL3000's with fresh RDO198-1's. There's maybe about 35 hrs on them now and one is dead ... nada ... ziltch.
I've switched them left to right to check them and again, no sound from the dead tweeter. Surely you'd expect more than 35 hours of life from one of these! I guess I'm going to have to roll the dice and buy another one. Any suggestions are welcome.

Cheers, LPN.

Call Polk and tell them what happened. They may give you another tweeter for free with exchange of your old one. You have nothing to lose.

You only put 35 hours of listening time in since last June??? The tweeters aren't even broken in yet.

What SDA's do you own? What are you using for power and how loud were you playing it when the tweeter stopped working?

Yes ... 35 hrs. These RDO198-1's are installed in RTA15 TLs, not SDA's. I've not exceeded half volume on an old Pioneer amp, so I'm thinking factory defect.

    Cheers, LPN.

Anything is possible, but that would be the first RD0198-1 failure that I've heard of.

Not saying bad about YOUR Pioneer amp but my brother in law trashed a pair of speakers with an old Pioneer SX-950 about 11:00 o'clock on the volume control. The Pioneer was clipping and had reached the end of it's life on the 4 ohm speakers They aren't made for 4 ohm.
