Planet Earth. Yeah, I know it's been done to death in just about every Best Buy showroom from here to Timbuktu...but I still just find it breathtaking to see. Star Trek, Iron Man, and one that surprised me...Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy! :)

There's a real inexpensive one ($12.99 I think) at Walmart called "Over America" very nice, crisp 1080p images. It's narrated by Tom Skerritt.

Had a little more time to really think about this, and here's my list.

For Audio: Cloverfield, Tears Of The Sun, Terminator: Salvation

For Video: The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, The International, Bolt

For Audio and Video: Band Of Brothers, King Kong, Knowing, Live Free Or Die Hard, Hellboy 2, The Incredible Hulk, I Robot, Iron Man, Up, Monsters Inc., Star Trek

I have all of these on BD and will say it's a very good roster of titles. Add Master & Commander, U-571 (depth charge scene) and you have a perfect demo.

U-571 I'll agree with you on... but though I know saying this will inspire hatred, I thought the BD of Master And Commander didn't sound as good as the DVD. That was one of my favorite audio demos on DVD, and the BD was just kind of sterile by comparison. Maybe it's just me though.

Most of the scenes in Transformers 2 (although its a bad movie).
*sigh* No it's not, it's EXACTLY what Transformers should be.

As for your question, take a look at this thread, anything in the Blu rated area is going to have excellent PQ, and really anything in the Gold section as well, but the titles in Blu are all going to be near reference.

Don't sweat the price, lots of top tier blu-rays go for cheap on Amazon.

    I, Robot $10
    Cars $15.49
    Crank $14.49

Just some of the cheap deals I saw today that are demo worthy in both video and audio.

Yeah, Amazon just started a nice $10-$12 sale if you want to snag some solid discs. I just snagged Independence Day, Rambo, Mr. And Mrs. Smith, Man On Fire, and The Rundown (guilty pleasure) for like $58 total. Hit http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/deals.php?action=bigpricedrops for a list of all the stuff that Amazon just dropped prices on.

Incidentally, that site is a freakin' Godsend for getting discs on the cheap from Amazon, and I highly recommend it. You can price-track any BD you want and they'll e-mail you when Amazon drops it to the price you want to pay.

    +1 for http://www.blu-ray.com/

But there are just too many blu-rays out now to go through them and set prices on all the ones I want, especially since I may not even look at a disk for $20 that I might be interested in for $9.99 or less. And with the variable pricing on Amazon, plenty of stuff that you'd never think would drop that low, actually does (like I, Robot). I just browse the 'show new deals' section and pick up plenty of stuff on the cheap that Amazon super discounts for whatever reason.

I thought the DTS MA sound was very good, the picture did suffer though.

Oh, the DTS MA track on Master & Commander was very good... but for some reason, the audio on the DVD version had a more 3-dimensional sound to it, especially for the much lauded scenes where they give the illusion of people walking above you on the desk. I'm curious if perhaps the DVD's DTS-ES mix was different from the original 5.1 master they used for the Blu-ray, since that could be the difference I'm hearing. DTS was known to punch up the audio on some DTS tracks (hence the reason the DTS-only version of Saving Private Ryan sounds completely different from the DD version).

It would be nice if they finally brought Saving Private Ryan to BD. It seems when we had the format war we had all sorts of good titles coming out left and right. Now it just seems like it's taking forever for the good titles to come to the new format. Sucks!!

Well maybe this will suck a little less...the title you want could be coming out May 4th...there's already an Amazon pre-order up.

I actually don't mind waiting as long as the titles eventually come out with properly cleaned up masters and top tier audio tracks. Lots of stuff got rushed during the format wars with poor transfers. If I have to buy a title again on blu-ray, I want it looking and sounding as good as it can on the format.

As cheddar said, Saving Private Ryan comes out May 4th. We also get Minority Report, Armageddon, Tombstone, and Toy Story 1&2 before then. There's a HUGE push of catalog titles right now. Hit http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/releasedates.html for the upcoming goodness.

I agree with you Cheddar and thanks for the link. I'm so stoked right now. This is going to be intense if the transfer is done right.

Yeah I saw a few of these on Amazon, so I'll definitely be in on those.

Fingers crossed that they get Kurt Russell to do the director's cut he has talked about doing (now that he can admit that he ghost-directed it). I'd love to see a new version of Tombstone, though I'm sure this will just be the same edit we're familiar with. Still... that's a day one buy for me, and I hope they get the transfer right.

I would say the depth charge scenes in U-571. Talk about blowing the f out of you. I mean if that doesn't scare the shiznit out of you I do not know what will. It is pretty terrorizing. I just pre-ordered SPR and hope that the normandy scene just blows me away...

But I second Transformers and Master and Commander. If any of you like the movie the longest day it looks sooooooo good in blu-ray.
