Good Blu-Rays for showing off system

What are some blu-rays people like to use as a demonstration for showing someone your system? Whole movies or just certain scenes. Personally I like:
The opening car chase scene in Quantumn of Solace and the airplane chase scene. Most of the scenes in Transformers 2 (although its a bad movie). Terminator Salvation's first action scene is pretty good. And the first 10 minutes of The Dark Knight even though i only have the regualr dvd.

Post some other good ones.

Top Gun will always be a favorite of mine even though it isn't the best pic or sound... just something about the jets... and great directing. The opening scene being my favorite!

The incredible Hulk. Any of the fight scenes. The Bass is super crazy in that movie.

    Master and commander.

    Socom confrontation for the PS3
Really though, the thing that shows of systems the most are video games. The PS3 shooter socom has the best surround sound I have ever heard. You can pinpoint where someone is by the sound of their gun shots. The grenades and machine guns also have very deep, and pounding bass. The floor shakes with every round fired out of an M60. Another thing that helps is that most PS3 games are in 7.1, and there are not to many movies that really show off 7.1.

I always show off 'Kill Bill Volume 1' the scene where the crazy 88's enter. It starts with the ladies making fun of 'Charlie Brown'. That musical buildup to the arm chop is just awesome!

I agree, taking a couple years off and living on your couch watching 70's B movies, smoking the ganja. Doesn't make you a better filmaker. However it gives you a pretty good rep with the teenagers!

I respectfully disagree. Kill Bill was a perfect homage to the old Shaw Bros. kung-fu flicks, with a touch of spaghetti western thrown in for good measure. He absolutely hit every note of how those old flicks played out, and it was brilliant. Though I have to say... Inglourious **** may well be his finest movie to date.

I typically throw in UP to show off my rig, but I also recommend The International if you want to show off some razor-sharp looking live action video. The audio won't blow you away, but the video presentation is outstanding.

And I don't think anyone here would disagree with me when I say Star Trek is a must-have showpiece for audio and video on BD. It's a fantastic disc.

There is more to a good movie than bass. Any fool can add bass to a soundtrack. Bass is like ketchup. Thrown on when there is either nothing there, or to disguise the taste, in this case to disguise the movie.

That's fine....I just think that an homage to Grade B film and pop nonsense isn't real 'art'....the film has that thrown together feeling that does not look like much thought went into it but that Quentin just chose his 'favorite' pop stuff and collaged it all together...then mesmerized mostly a 'younger' crowd that really hasn't seen the great films of the past.

Inglourious **** has EVERY CLICHE in the book in it...there is nothing 'new' there....ponderous and silly, implausible and totally 'predictable'--and it's not like the **** genre has ever been done before.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree, a good friend of mine who is an Indie film director feels pretty much the same way and he's seen 'everything'.

My opinion....Inglourious **** is at least better than Kill Bill and thank god for that...but it's not world class by any stretch.

When testing things or showing off I pop in Iron Man and go to the scene where he flys to the mid east to kill the people who bought the weapons (if that makes sense). Otherwise the Galapagos Blu Ray is a great visual experience (and where I am going on my honeymoon).

Dark Knight and Ratatouille (sp?) are my 2 favorites for showing off BR to the masses. Those more well versed in film will get all of my favorite fight scenes from Ip Man, the best kung fu flick to come out in ages...

Have you seen the The incredible Hulk. It's bass is the best I have ever heard. Nothing hits as low as the subsonic boom cannon(whatever that thing is)The fight scenes are also awsome, and not just because of the bass. They did a great job making things fly arond your head.

I doubt, you can find a movie that shows off every aspect of a system as well as the Hulk movie does. I've watched all of the suggested system showcase movies, and the Hulk is either the best or as good as the best. He's not asking what is the best blue ray to watch, he wants to show off his system, and the Incredible Hulk has several scenes that will make people shake their heads when they hear the sound coming from them. Everyone I have shown it to just sets there and smiles, and asks how much my setup cost, and as you can see form my sig, it's not that impressive of a system.

These threads have come up quite often the past few years. And it used to be pretty easy to pick out the few stellar releases for blu-ray. What strikes me this time is how much more even the quality of blu-rays has become. With older blu-rays, you used to have compromises as some were great for audio, some were great for video. And only a few stood out with both great video and audio.

Now, it seems like the full list of 'show off' videos is just too large to put in one list and really depends on what genre people like to watch. Maybe production processes have finally caught up with the technology and it seems almost any major animated or action movie will have a great picture and sound even if the movie is a disaster plotwise etc.

Good step forward for the format IMHO.

Fifth Element - Remastered version on BD

I used this to show off my HT/BD setup to my friends.

One friend showed up -said she could only stay for 30 minutes.

She was so taken with the PQ she couldn't leave :D

Next week she and her BF went out and got their own BD setup. :p
