If I run a test from MT. Pleasent MI (says distance is 150 Miles) My ping drops too 786, and up load speed drops to .01 mb/s which is a gross over statement. The best I have ever seen downloading is 4kb/s

Was on satellite for many years too. Started out back in the early 90's with DirecPC, then moved over to Wildblue for awhile. Was pretty happy with them, very good download speeds.

Lorthos I hope your joking. The internet will time out if you go over a certain limit in X amount of time and stay that way for 24 hours you really can not do much with it. It really sucks.

Yes, was very familar with the FAP:) I guess I should have said, Wildblue was the one I was happy with. I had the Pro package, 1.5 down and 256 up. The pro package also had a higher "threshold", thats their definition of FAP

right now we pay $50 a month for unlimited everything. The phone that we use for internet we put 5-10 bucks on every 3 months. So I guess for less than 3.50 a month I can deal. I know a few people who do use Verison for their internet and are very pleased (way better than Sat, and as good if not a little better than most DSL. 3-5 Mb/s down on their cell with 5 computers gaming at the same time w/no lag.

Still too expensive. I was hoping Verizon would have a FIOS package with TV, internet, and phone for under $70 including taxes and fees.

My speed test was done on my Wireless Apple MacBook Pro. I have a Apple Airport Extreme router running N. So it's blazing fast. I love it. All my computers are wireless except my sons Mac Mini and thats only because there is a jack under his desk so he plugs in for the hell of it.

It just became available in my neighborhood again (I moved 1/4 mile down the road last year and lost it). Trying to convince the wife to go with it. She's a bit leery though, seeing as how Verizon requires a contract, and has just increased the cancellation fee up past $300.

Not that I would CHOOSE to cancel, but with the current job market, who knows what will happen in the near future?

I'm pretty happy with 6Mbps download, but my DSL only has about 500k upload! That's what ends up sucking! No FIOS available in GA and ATT doesn't seem to have any plans.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

When I cancelled my Comcast service, the customer service representative scolded me. Told me I would be paying more, blah, blah blah, she was reading from a script. People are running from Comcast when Fios becomes available.

Well, as many others have done finally left Comcrap and went to Verizon Fios. So far I've been clearly impressed with picture quality, internet speed and above all, the install. Buddy of mine did my install so of course he went the extra mile to make me happy with the service. Here are some of my numbers. Keep in mind I'm running these test wirelessly with my laptop.

You know...these speeds LOOK great. But I spent 10 days in Japanese hotels...and the speed was NOWHERE near that in Tokyo and Kyoto? In fact...in Kyoto--because of the heavy rains and heavy internet use in the hotel....I could barely get online? So what's up with that?

Plus NONE of the hotels had ANY wireless access! I've got to tell you--for me, at least, internet access in Japan was not that impressive--only a little faster than China in Tokyo...yeah it read 30 Mbps download...but it ACTED like less than 4 or 5 Mbps...it wasn't much faster than what I now have in the U.S.

FIOS....sure...we'll get that up here by 2050 if we're lucky?? I have Time Warner service at about 8.5 Mbps but since I'm using VONAGE for phone service, my actual speeds have dropped to about 3 Mbps. So I pay about 112 a month for cable and internet access and another 35 for Vonage to SLOW MY service DOWN! Thanks much for your phone service.

Up here we have a J.A. corp. that took over Verizon's lines and their service sucks. They don't even have a REAL office in our entire state!

So you greater Metro area boys have it good!

Enjoy the FASTER, CHEAPER, BETTER service.

Yeah CNH, alot of the Japanese hotels internet service is pretty bad as I have also experienced that. I can tell you though, my Fiber at home simply rocks bro.
