    Airplay,

I'm not going to lie to you. In my opinion, I think the H/K has a better sound than the Yamaha. The Yamaha has awesome specs some of the best in fact. Specs sometimes are like looking at the stats of the teams playing the Super Bowl...it doesn't usually relate to who is going to win the game. The RX-V1300 is a bit on the bright side paired up with RT speakers. Also bright with my Paradigm Studio 40's. Extremely detailed though and some like this sound. Very exciting to listen to at first but can get tiresome after a while. The Yamaha beat the pants off a Onkyo Integra 6.3 with similar wattage numbers that I auditioned in my home side by side. Onkyo makes a good product but I believe their wattage / channel seems to be overinflated a tad (my experience). I've owned two Onkyo receivers and an Onkyo two channel integrated amp so I know.

I owned a H/K fifteen years ago that played awesome for me for 10 years (two channel receiver). If you can find an H/K that doesn't have reliability issues you have found a decent receiver. I still think you can do better though. If you are looking for the best sound quality I stand by my former post with NAD for the price range that you are looking for.

It all depends on how critical you are of your music. Best thing is to go out and have a listen to some of the receivers mentioned, look at the features and remotes, take your time and make a good decision on your purchase.

My very biased opinion..H/K. It drives my RT's just fine. Again as was stated it is best to listen then decide.

    Airplay,

You can check out a H/K AVR 7000 direct from H/K at:

    http://www.harmanaudio.com/search_browse/product_detail.asp?urlMaterialNumber=AVR7000-Z

It's factory refurbished at a great price of $598. I'd ask what kind of warranty they have with it. If it's at least a year I'd bet that it would be safe. Most problems develop in the first few weeks with electronics.

Nice review from Sound and Vision too. Wow, the thing weighs 49 lbs. That's more than my Rotel..

There's a lot of H/K praise going on here. I had a Harmon Kardon AVR125 and switched for a Denon 2802 and haven't looked back. It was a step up. The H/K seemed more cheaply made compared to the Denon. I've read some reliability issues I didn't want to bring this all up to sway you in any way.

I've said it before, go and check out a few receivers. If your going to spend the money, make sure it's on your own opinion and not others. That's how I ended up going through 3 receivers. A buddy of mine is thrilled with his Yamaha, it's all personal preferrence.

    Airplay355,

In a few weeks I will be selling my H/K 320. I have been using it as a pre/pro untill I get my rack additions, phono preamp and line conditioner. I'm going with the Rotel seperates to power the LSi's, which are a less efficient speaker than the RT series, at my favored listening level..LOUD. If you may be interested let me know... will give more info.
    Just a thought.

I agree with dorokusai. Too many pans of the Sony ES series in here. ES is NOT mainstream Sony, it's their effin FLAGSHIP!
I listened and compared a lot of receivers before I got my DA1ES. They can't be beat for bang for buck. I had Good Guys match an open box deal from Magnolia and got mine NIB for $349 with a FIVE year warranty.

    Must be the Titanic.

IMO, even the Sony ES line is way overpriced for what you get...a Sony.

    Peace Out~:D

Overall I have been pleased with my Onk 787. My CC is closing out this years model, the 797 for 630.00 it was 1000.00 originally, might want to look at it.
