The last time federal GS employees had this low of a raise was 1974.
The last time the economy was this bad was 1934!
But in your defense the percentages should be across the board. I pray that no one I know winds up in my shoes, my wife looses her job of 21 years back last February, then a month later I went. Stand a chance of goin under if things don't change.
Your earlier statements in reference to anyone "making" job security for themselves is pure bunk, and shows you have no grip on what is really happening "out there". We all cannot work for the government or there would be no government.

Oh, I'm good--and I AM thankful. You sound upset however. Go here: www.cpol.army.mil or here: www.usajobs.com tons of federal employee jobs, waiting to be filled. Excellent benefits, too.

Yes, it is. Cost of living allowance, it's just not a set guaranteed amount. Jealous of our benefit package? Stop whinning and become a federal employee--show us overpaid slobs how much better you will do at it.
Nope, not jealous in the least. I have the skill set, determination, and work ethic to make a much bigger salary and better benefit package at private companies and choose to do so.
There is no getting around overpaid slobs in the government. I vote for candidates who I think are for less government period, and that's the best I can do.
Maybe I'm misinterpreting your thread title, but to me its a big middle finger to anyone who pays taxes in this country. There is a huge difference between complaining about cuts you are experiencing not going up the chain or as far across as you think was fair, versus telling a 10% unemployed workforce that they owe you some kind of thank you for only taking X% more of their paychecks than last year. -

Click on the "employment" tab. You'll have to format your resume in a specific way, read through the website instructions on "how to apply." AND--GOOD LUCK, seriously.
I'm completely in touch with how things are, why do you think I work for the Fed? There is zero loyalty in corporate America anymore. When I got out of the Army in 1997, I was offered a contracted position in Phoenix as a systems administrator, $78,000/yr to start---I turned it down for a $11.05/hr as a "wage grade" (WG as opposed to GS scale) federal employee---why the hell? you ask....JOB SECURITY, and to get my foot in the door. That was 13 years ago, now I'm a GS-11 with 28 years federal service. So what's the problem here??? The economy sucks??? Our economy is driven by cheap imports, printing money (treasury bonds), and only manufacturing weapons?
hmmmm -- my question is how long can we live off the good graces of those who are holding our debt?

Thanks for the link.
See a total of 30,000+ government job listings there.Wonder what percentage of those are actually going to get filled then divide by the amount of capable people looking for those jobs. My guess is odds are close to at least five figures for actually landing something.
Edit: Rechecked that link and there are ZERO jobs listed in any category for the state I live in. No surprise there.Parasound C1, T3, HCA-3500, HCA-2205A, P/DD1550, Pioneer DV-79avi, Oppo BDP-83, WD Media Server W/HDD,

Steve's just venting some anger at seeing his raise get slashed while the suits keep hauling it in. No different from the real world. By your own logic though Steve, if your so upset at the benefits the suits get, become one. Don't mean to offend you pal,but it seems your complaining because someone higher up the food chain has it better than you. Both of us have been around the block a time or two and we both know **** rolls down hill. Way of the world buddy boy.HT SYSTEM-

True... but why should they ? They have you to collect more from when needed or just print it. I agree to a point that they should not spend more than they take in except for unforseen circumstances. Then again, everything is labeled a "crisis" for the sole reason of spending more.HT SYSTEM-

I think you missed my point.
The reason government is so bloated and full of lazy cows is because they don't have to compete with the rest of the marketplace like everyone in the private sector does. The military, at least, has self-preservation in mind. That's their incentive to bust their **** and not screw the pooch.
The rest of the government ought to be tightening it's belt like the rest of us have had to do. You can't keep squeezing taxpayers, especially when many of them don't have jobs. -
BTW Obama had no hand in the FY 09 pay increase, that was Bush. FY 10 is the first year that Obama had a political influence on government pay.
Steve, your company sucks and would be out of business by now if they couldn't print their own money and steal ours.

Let's face it guys, each of us is only one (1) tax paying unit.
I work for a Major corporation and most of the hourly guys are only working 32 hours a week on average. No overtime in the last 4 months. Times are tight everywhere, be it private or civil. Let's just hope the world continues to use the dollar for exchange. There's some heavy stuff coming our way. Learn how to grow food and snare a rabbit.>

IIRC, you work in DOD logistics, correct? You could try plying your trade in the private sector(Halliburton, Blackwater)
Ofcourse, if you went that route, you may end up doing your job from an FOB in Kandahar:rolleyes:I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE! -

I would think Steve has too much time invested to switch over to the private sector at this point in his career and life. -
Sorry Steve, but no sympathy here either. As a State worker in Georgia, I haven't seen a pay increase since January of 2008. Each year, our cost of benefits has increased ~$30 month. Since August 2009, we have been furloughed 1 day per month which works out to about a 5% pay cut. They are working on a budget for next year and I can guarantee we wont' see any raises in Jan 2011 either. At least I have a job and its pretty secure.
This is pretty much the same for all state workers across the country, why? Because most (if not all) States are required to run a balanced budget. Unlike the Federal Govt, they cannot run in the red for years upon years and pass the debt load onto future generations. For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore... -
Reading comprehension around here seriously lacks. Not looking for sympathy, I'm doing quite well, thanks. Not looking for another job, love mine, thanks. Simply passing on the fact that our fearless leader will appear on TV soon, and declare how "we" took on reductions to help with the economy; and that sadly, many Americans are ignorant enough to believe that means the big shots participated in that reduction too. Finally, "benefits" are perks given in-lieu of pay. They are not priviledges, they are part of the entire pay package. If you feel somehow cheated by the benefit package that government employees receive, again, feel free to join the ranks. But don't attempt to chip away at our benefits, because you're pissed off about yours.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

He doesn't seem to grasp that the government works for the people and that private business employees work for the shareholders, be they public or private.
Government should not be exempt from having to reign in spending or God forbid -- lay people off. I understand that the higher ranking government workers are getting bigger raises and the lower ranking government workers aren't getting as much (isn't that as it always is?). I think it's the position of most here that NONE of them should be getting raises in this economy. -

Um yeah, in a sense, when you have a pay czar to limit what a corporation can pay it's executives. Thats government deciding how much you can make, yes or no ? Maybe not the gov. workers themselves, but those that represent the government do. I do get your point Steve, but you are a part of a bigger scenario that you don't seem to understand. Lets look at it this way, the 300 plus million americans are a corporation and the government is our employee. The employer, the people, are having hard times, does that employer give out raises, post 30,000 new jobs available ? Seems like suicide wouldn't it? The people don't exist to support a government, rather than the government exists to support the people. My point being, is that because you are a government worker, you are not entitled to anything that the american public is not willing to give. That being said, I truley am sorry about your situation, is it fair ? Maybe not, but what the hell is these days.HT SYSTEM-
