Hey guys,

I have a Yamaha RX-V465, Monitor 60's up front, CS-1 Center, and 2 R-50's for the rear.

I would like to add a Adcom GFA-535 or GFA-545 to power the R-50's in the rear.

My receiver has pre-outs, but manual says if i use these, i would make a 7.1 system, which i dont want.

I just want to power the rears, or fronts if i decide to, with this amp.

Am i SOOL, or is this possible with the receiver in question?

Thanks,

Deuce

The RX-V465 only has pre-outs for power to surround back speakers. So, in essence, it is intended to make the receiver a 7.1 system as the manual says. Only SB effects will be directed to the external amp. You are SOL . Sell it and get a RX-V 663

So a pre-amp would not help at all then?

That Yamaha rx-v663 looks nice, but is there one like it with more HDMI inputs?

The V863 would probably be the next step up as far as I can tell, but even it only has 3 HDMI inputs. That and it is $450 more, according to MSRP that is, lol. I did find it on Buy.com for $499.81 shipped.

Duece, look at the RX-V665 it has 4 HDMI inputs and the pre-outs you need to use a separate amplifier, and it's a very good entry level pre-pro.
I've seen these around for less than $475, with the optional I-pod docking station.

If you decide to get an amp, I'd power the fronts and center and let the receiver power the rears.

    Not for the surround signals

Add a 5X1 HDMI switcher from monoprice to a 663 and you're all set. That gives you 7 inputs !
The 663 series is better than the 2009 665 series ( amp wise ) IMO. The new ones are much lighter and corners must have been cut somewhere.

I have the Yamaha RX-V665 as well. At the moment, it is sitting in the closet. Not that there is anything wrong with it, I bought it as a piece for a future theatre system thinking I could use it for a 2-channel system in the mean time.

I used it to push my Monitor 10s, but it just didn't quite cut it. It just didn't seem to have the umph I was hoping for. I had to break out the Adcoms. I have been considering adding the Adcoms to it just to see what it sounds like.
