Just discovered my favorite Potato Chips

I'm not a huge junk foodie (I go to Whole Foods, Trader Joes, etc.), but when I feel starved after sports practice and want to splurge, the whole Doritos/american potato chips just doesn't do it for me. Some are too heavy on flavor, some too light, some too grainy...

I go to Mitsuwa Marketplace frequently, a japanese supermarket that has high-quality (and not entirely affordable) japanese products (6 mochi ice cream balls for 8$!), and for the first time, dropped by their chips section. I grabbed this:

potato_chips_seaweed_m.jpg

And what preceded to be the best potato chip I've had. Lightly seasoned with seaweed salt, it's simply amazing. Turns out Calbee is a major japanese snack food maker...and japan has a galore of seemingly awesome flavors.

I like my sea salt and cracked pepper chips. A few companies make them a little different but that's ok. Enjoy..

    Lol...

When we go shopping in Beijing it is actually hard to find what we would consider normally flavored potato chips between all the seaweed flavored and other kinds: shrimp or crab or cucumber or French chicken flavored, and tomato flavored chips?

Potato Chips are my Achilles heal! I love most types of potato chips. My favorite so far are all locally made. Hard to believe my city has (3) potato chip factories.

Cape Cod is a great chip!

    Demi,

My fav. grocery store just started selling Krunchers and I just bought 2 bags for 3.00 @ 9 1/2 oz.. They're ok but Cape Cod is a little less greasy. I like em both though and will buy which-ever is on sale.

I'll have to try that Hawiian onion flavour next time.

Yeah, like most things it's a matter of taste. You can't eat as many of the Krunchers because they're greasier. Then again I had some chips my uncle said were the best and it was like eating fried lard. No flavor. :(

I like the Original, BBQ, and Salt & Pepper Krunchers the best.

The salt and pepper Krunchers are what I bought. They do have a nice blend on them.

I like Kringles salt and pepper too but they have like 3 times the coating as the others and you only get about 7 1/2 oz. per bag. Not much grease either but man what a thick layer of pepper. They're my once in a while pick.

Good point George. If I were to eat potato chips it would be Wise. I like how there are different levels of cooked chip in each bag. When I do eat them, I prefer the darker chips in the bag and eat them first.

A-freakin'-MEN!!! Talk about a flavor explosion. Ever since I moved to Atlanta, I can't find 'em anywhere - which makes me a very sad panda.
On a side note, I normally detest Doritos... but they make a Tacos at Midnight flavor which is stellar.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

They aren't as greasy as Krunchers and they're packed with flavor (not for everyone, though).

    This is how they look:
