Matthew Broderick approves remake of "Ferris Bueller"
Matthew Broderick has given Hollywood bosses the green light to remake his classic movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off, but doesn't want any involvement in it.

Rumors have swirled for months suggesting studio chiefs are nursing plans to bring the cult 1980s comedy back to the big screen in either a sequel or a remake.

Broderick has now commented on the reports, insisting he would be "happy" with plans to bring back rebellious teen Ferris, as long as the project is handed to a completely new cast.

He tells Cinematical, "(A remake) would be fine. I would be perfectly happy for somebody to do that. I probably wouldn't enjoy (having a role in the film). I would rather leave what we did as our thing."

No way. You can't remake personality, and that's what Matthew Broderick had.

There are certain movies that a remake could never match the original IMO....

    Animal House
    Blazing Saddles
    ET
    Blade Runner

to name a few....and Ferris Bueller falls in that category.

Hollywood must be running out of fresh ideas.

Do we have to say this EVERY time they make a crappy remake?

"Hollywood" is not a single person; there's plenty of creative people out there who make good films, there's also a bunch of hacks who find old **** to remake to make a creatively void dollar. For some reason we spend way more time talking about the latter.

Downright sacriligious. I'm still shaking my head at how bad the remake of The Longest Yard was, completely pathetic.

What if the remake scenes with the hookers include hotter women in explicit hardcore action?

    Same for the subway scene.

    Would that pique your interest?

It sounds like you are confusing Ferris with "Risky Business''...

And no...adding more "visual effects" are not necessary in this movie. It is fine just the way it is. Watch any one of any number of current movies or your good ole 24/7 internet **** if you want a little more action.

They should incorporate this with the remake of Karate Kid somehow.

Maybe The 'Kid could face of against Rooney in the climax.....

How does one remake such a classic? Can you imagine remaking Animal House, Caddyshack, Superman, Trading Places, or Splash? Come on! Leave well enough alone! Lets pass on these great films on to our kids so that they can appreciate how well movies are done.

You don't remember "Superman Returns" from several years back? It's one of the main features on AMC this week.

Boo to a remake, like everyone says.

But what I could entertain would be Ferris Grown Up, the Karma.
With Matthew Broderick, of course, and as much of the rest of the originals.

    Lots of possibilities.

From what I have read...that is the plan. Ferris at 40.

A sequel maybe... A remake...NOT as far as I'm concerned!
Matthew Broderick has revealed he wanted to film a sequel to his classic eighties hit Ferris Bueller’s Day Off — which was written and directed by the late John Hughes.

The actor — who is married to married to Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker — says he spoke with Hughes before his death last year about making a follow-up film that would catch up with Ferris as an adult.

“It’s something we talked about – catching up with Ferris as an adult and seeing how he turned out,” says Matthew. “We never quite got it together though. I’m still not sure what Ferris would be up to now.

“I wish John was around because he might have a good idea. I think he would maybe be living in a rich house near where he grew up. I bet he would be exactly like his parents.”

The actor says he wouldn’t oppose a Day Off remake — but he wouldn’t want to to be involved.

“A remake would be fine,” said Broderick. “I would be perfectly happy for somebody to do that. I probably wouldn’t enjoy having a role in the film. I would rather leave what we did as our thing.”
