Monitor 60 no sound from tweeters

Ok I just got my monitor 60s as a xmas present. I bought the cs1 center a month ago as a center speaker. The problem I'm having is there's no sound coming from the tweeter on my monitor 60s, I can hear great highs from the cs1 (I can tell those tweeters are working) but nothing from either monitor 60s. Not sure what's wrong, if they are working or not. I have heard the tsi 400 and from what I recall I can hear highs pretty good from that speakers. So is there something wrong with my monitor 60 tweeters, if so what could've happened? By the way the other three drives on each monitor 60 seem to work as I can hear and feel it vibrate.

I'm using the onkyo ht-r520 to run these speakers also. And my volume has not gone pass 50 yet, I usually run them around 35-45 on a regular basis.

    Welcome to club POLK...

In all probability the metal jumpers that connect the two terminals on the back of your speaker are not making CONTACT. First make sure the jumpers are there!

Then that the wires are flush with them.

Then that the jumper is SCREWED DOWN TIGHT ENOUGH SO THAT IT IS MAKING CONTACT WITH THE SPEAKER TERMINALS THEMSELVES.

IF ANYTHING IS LOOSE OR GAPPED. You will experience either a loss of the tweeters or a loss of bass.

Lots of first timers encounter this problem.

It's that medal plate that connects both of those inputs together right? I checked that they are both pretty tight.

They stil might not be making contact....try this...take some pieces of speaker wire...remove the jumpers and put the speaker wire in their place to do what the jumpers did, i.e., connect the upper and lower terminals....then reattach your speaker wire....to one set of L/R terminals.

If that does not work..you've probably blown the tweeters--you're under warranty so just give Polk a call and they'll send you a new pair.

Also, out of curiosity try running the center from the L or R channel of you receiver to make sure its not some AVR related problem.

+1 Great post cnh, if this doesn't solve his problem, then Polk CS will take care of him.

I'll try the wire trick but I did switch the center to the left and got sound to come out of the tweeter from the center.

Hmmmm, sounds a bit more like you may have blown your tweets. Looks like a call to Polk CS is in your future, lol. Don't worry, they will take care of you. Try the wire trick that cnh suggested, and if it doesn't work, start dialing.

Yeah I'll give them a call. I heard the top two terminals are for tweeters and the bottom two are for the drivers and to disconnect the the bridge and just connect to the tweeter to see if I can get sound from the tweeter this way. If not I think the tweeter are jacked. I dont think they've ever worked because remember thinking to my self there must be something wrong but when I turned on my center it sounded ok so I just went with it.

I had a feeling that you were going to post something to that effect, lol. I almost did it for you, Polk CS is second to none and they stand behind their products. Way to go Polk, and glad to see you will be back up and running soon.

Well I can finally get to hear the full potential of the L and R speakers. I personally think the tweeters came DOA. My friend just helped me verify the tweeters were not working by changing my AVR to stereo and said somethings not right here.

You want to play nice with your new tweeters for a while, don't blast them during the break in period....moderate volumes only and they'll last you a long time.

Lots of newbies think they can clip a set of Polk Ms immediately...if you want to see what happens there...check the reviews by users on Polk's site....everyone of them BLOWS their tweeters and then 'complains' that the tweeter is weak or defective...lol..

There is NOTHING WRONG WITH POLK tweeters...but that's not saying that all users know what they are doing!

    Enjoy but be gentle..

Once they're broken in they'll handle most anything except bad amps!

There is not an absolute rule but I'd say around a 100 hours or a few weeks of solid listening! Metal, Alloy, carbonized, and Beryllium (etc.) tweeters take A LOT longer to hit their peak!

    Hi cnh and others,

I was strugglign with my tweeters for last week and when i read these posts, I fixed them up within 5 minutes. I cant thank you guys enough.

Even my wife was jumping on my head that Polks are defective and I shouldnt have bought them...hahahaha. Now she is off my back.

Now I am goign to slowly break them for next few weeks.

Do have a question: Is there an easy way to raise the height of my TV so i can put my center (CS2) in front of it? I dont want to wall mount it and its a 52" LCD.

    Thanks!!

I know this is an old old thread, but this saved me a lot of money today. LOL. Went to put on my favorite CD (Jeff Beck's Blow by Blow, which I know like the back of my hand). Something didn't sound right, sure enough the left side tweeter was not tweeting. Got online to find replacement and came across this thread. Sure enough, my jumper plate on that side was not screwed down. LOL> Guess my kid thought it looked like something fun to play with. But anyway, thanks!
