Well I don't know if I should kick myself in the ars or if i did the right thing by just passing it up as I really didn't have the money for it anyway. Let me explain, the wife and I went out cruising around for yard sales and came up on one that looked to have some items that were more along my lines of interest. As I was walking down the drive I spyed a piece of audio equipment sitting on the wall at the front walk. When I walked over to it I just about had flippin cow, there was a carer 500t in what appeared to be mint condition. The guy having the sale walks over and we begin to discuss a little about. Turns out he only wanted 25 bucks for it, he says that the power supply is out and that it needs a new one and that he has already priced one from the factory at 198.00.

Should I have scarfed it up or did I make the right choice by leaving it alone. I have been hell bent with myself since last week about this and don't know what to do. I am pretty sure that he still has it as he lives out in bfe. What would you do?

    I can't, I just can't.

I'm going to go outside, piss on my lawn, take a couple shots, and pretend I never read this post.

Well, you don't know the difference in a 500t and a hole in the wall, so its irrelevant.

You have clearly stated Carver sucks, so power supply or not, you would have passed anyway, no?

I am going to look back into the carver today or tomorrow to see if he still has it. If so I am going to scrape enough change together to go ahead and pick it up. Then I can begin to dig around inside the thing and see just what is really wrong with the power supply, and to see if it really does need the whole thing. I sure hope he still has it.......I should also point out that my wife was having a coniption fit because I wanted to buy the amp and She is the biggest reason that I left it sit.....damn her.

I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

polkatese, it's an 80's amp, mid 80's I believe. 250 w/channel into 8, both channels driven, 20-20. It kicks some f'ing ****, i'm using mine right now :D Anyways, not to sound too MX-esque.. I think its one of carver's better efforts, of the models that I have heard. the t in 500t means transfer function, bob apparently designed his amp to mimic tube amp characteristics. I've never heard a stock M-500, so I can't comment on how much difference it makes. The amp goes for anywhere between 300-450 on ebay. I know I would have picked it up, 25 bucks! If it was on ebay with that problem it would probably go for 150, as I have seen some broken ones have already. I gotta get out to more yard sales!

    Hotwheel...
Seen only three 500t's on ebay. Prices were $275, $350 and $405. Call Carver to double check that there is no bench charge on top of the $198 if you are planning to send it in. Seller may have quoted you the part only.
Carver's bench charge at one time was $149. It included minor parts, unit upgrade to last production models and return shipping.
I'm sure that replacing the power supply would run extra. But if you can do it yourself...

EDIT: I 'd also recommend you ask the seller how he knows it's only the PS, why it went, etc. I'd be a little leary.
    More later,
    Tour...

to be honest with you, for 25 + shipping I am sure plenty of people on the forum would take it off of his hands even if he determined it to be almost totally shot. He doesnt have a lot to lose besides a little of his time
