Comparing RTi70 & RTi1000p

I would like your input comparing these two speakers. It seems everyone around here got new speakers and are selling off their older ones. There is a pair of RT1000p's for $100 (says "he got them at Goodwill" and one of the volume knobs is broken) and a couple of pairs of RTi70 ranging from $200 +/- to $275.....

Also, what is the difference sound wise between the CSi5 ( I have) and the CS400i?? What is the CS400i worth? There is a set of RTi70 with a CS400i asking $350. I guessed that the CS400i is worth around $150+ so that makes the RTi70's cost $200...

Thanks,
KC

I have RTi70's in my second HT system. I've heard the RT1000p's once or twice but was never really impressed with their bass output. IMHO I would rather have the RTi70's (which IMHO are very impressive HT speakers) and a decent sub. Put a decent amp behind the RTi70's and they sound really good. The CSi40 center is the best match, I have used mine with the CSi5 center and it was an OK match.

    Kewl, thanks DKG...
What about the CS400i? (That's the one he is selling)

With your CSi40, did you notice any 'timbre match issues' between the silk domes on the RTi70's and the tri-lam domes on the CSi40?

The RTi70's and the CSi40 are timbre matched and have the same tweeters.

DKG is a kind soul. Sometimes it takes more than a couple hours for you to get a response. Chill out.

    Hmmm, My mistake.

I have not tried them yet, so I was just going by what is posted on Polk's spec pages.

Well IF the RT1000p's are/ were a decent speaker, I do not think they are going to last very long at the price...AND unfortunately, for me, I can't afford to buy up a whole bunch of speakers, so I need to choose between the two. I was looking for some feedback while they are still around..... but it sounds like I am better off saving my $$ for the RTi70's. thanks.

Don't get your panties in a bunch. If the RT1000p's are in your budget buy them. They are a very respectable HT speaker, and I don't think you'll be disappointed. My opinions are just that, my opinions. I like the RTi70's, but of course I own the RTi70's, so I might just be a little biased.

These speakers are very different. The rt1000p's are a powered tower and have good bass extension but are difficult to setup and get right. They go from no bass to a lot of bass . The knob sensitive . I owned them for years and found they where a very good 1000.00 dollar speaker. I liked them better then the rt800's and so back then.
The Rti70's are a more refined speaker. They have a tighter sound and good bass. They are a fine speaker. It's a passive design.

Comparing them together I'd probably take the rti70's but the price that the rt1000p's are going for I would take them. Killer deal for good speakers. use the cs400 center. This makes for a very nice theater and music system

    Thanks Mantis.
I am sorely tempted by the R1000p's, but I think with the repairs and also from a general 'weird feeling' I get from the guy selling them, I think there is something hinky with him/ them.

I am leaning more towards the Rti70's, and I like that they are a tighter, more refined speaker. And they are also a match for some RT55i's I am restoring.

I wish I could do both, but no room nor $$. Plus I am thinking now I would be better off putting that $100 towards the xovers in my Mon7's.

I'll take door #3! If you have monitor 7's then the money is well spent on upgrading the x-overs and the tweeters (if they have SL-2000's). That mod will not disappoint.

The 1000p's are awesome. They're one of my favorite Polk speakers. I have a pair on ratation for my rig. The bass is tricky, like Mantis mentioned, but if you can give them a few feet away from any wall, it makes the sub set up A LOT easier. They sound super on jazz. The subs sound very smooth and soothing. Great extension too.
