So return it or leave it on, Auto mode saves almost no power. We are talking Cents a month maybe. Generally speaking when electronics idle they use almost no watts. Take it from me who has nothing but electronics, Audio gear, high end quad core computer, lap toptv etc. (all powered 24/7) my power bill is like 30-50 bucks.
What really makes your power bill go up is heating and cooling of air, water stoves etc... they use the power! (I have an very small volume of air to heat/cool, use almost no hot water and don't cook) don't worry about your subs power consumption when in idle just leave it on 24/7 you will be fine.
What I'm saying is the auto mode is not really needed for any thing, if your going to be gone for a long time unplug it. If your sub works fine when you just put it in ON mode keep it, other wise return it. Or call Polk's help line/wait for some one smarter to post.Monitor 60s, CS10 front

Not sure about the turning off part... But for the auto on try reducing the volume on the sub and increasing the sub level in the AVR. Sometimes it may have difficulty sensing the signal if it is too weak. By upping the receiver level it will send a stronger signal to the sub.
Just a thought.Front - RTiA5's
