I was goofing around with the PS3, and I saw the Netflix in the PS store... Has anyone tried this out yet? I'm curious as to how well it works. It seems like it would be pretty cool if it works OK.

I have it and prefer the Xbox 360's version much better. It's slow and clunky to use compared. I was kinda shocked as the Ps3 seems faster in every other way.

They should ditch the disc and make it apart of the system. Then I wonder if it would work better. Still worth having it you have no other way to stream.

I read somewhere that, that was the plan, but the disc was a quick way to get it rolling for the PS3. I'm glad they did, I was very close to ordering a Roku box.

I haven't tried the 360 version, but I don't find the PS3+Netflix to be slow at all. Then again, I don't expect it to be instantaneous. It's right on par with on-demand shows on satellite, for speed.

I'm unclear as to your meaning above. 'ditch the disc'..do you mean that they are streaming a DVD as it plays? Or that the PS3 is buffer storing it on its hard drive system, or neither?

And why is it better on the Xbox when the PS3 is the more powerful processor?

Not sure how the PS3 version works, but the Tivo Netflix instant feature works really well. The video quality is pretty decent. Not HD, maybe close to DVD quality on some features. It would never be my preferred way to watch a top notch movie, but for movies or TV series that you just want to see again, or don't care about the quality, its a great feature. I think you really need to have 3Mbps internet speed at least and a solid network setup.

    +1
Solid, high speed connection is a must. My HD streams are uninterrupted. (3-6Mb/s)

A disc is required to run netflix on PS3 right now I believe, kinda like software. Guys, am I right on this?

Works great for me. Mostly it's the kids watching Scooby Doo or some other cartoon but I have tried it once or twice myself. HD is decent quality but of course not BluRay and the selection is limited.

    That is correct.

From what I have found, the 360 has a nicer and snappier interface but the PS3 has a slight edge in regards to image quality.

    Thanks,

That explains that, but it does sound like Mantis is right...after all that PS3 has plenty of storage for the actual software on its hard drive?

There are rumors that one of the tiered plans for the paid PSN service will allow for Netflix without the disc but it should be integrated into the XMB this year for all.

Ditch the disc mean you have to put a Netflix disc in the Ps3 in order to stream Netflix over BD live. It's how it works for now.
The Xbox360 has Netflix right in the menu system and works very fast meaning you can check out your instant que and rent other movies that are not in your que. This works very fast. You can change from one movie to another as your checking out the selections. On the Ps3 it's slow , you go one movie at a time and it doesn't move as fast as the Xbox 360. Your que scrolls a lot slower as well. If you could try both ways you would see what I mean. It's not bad on the Ps3 just a lot better on the Xbox 360.

I'll let you guys know my opinion on it. I should be receiving the disc monday. I decided to give the 2 week trial a shot. My internet is 6mb, so it should be fast enough. That is of course assuming Combastard doesn't figure out yet another way to piss me off! God, I effing hate Comcast...but I rent, and don't have a choice on providers. I digress.

I have a smoking connection but it still buffered my first movie, which sucked anyways so I stopped watching it.

I use a Roku since I don't own a PS3, and I have no issues other than the occasional crappy Comcast stream. Not Roku or Netflix fault. Comcast blows in my area at certain times.

I have it for the Xbox and find it is very quick for loading times. My friend just tried it out and I was over for him on the PS3 and noticed the same thing as you stated above. It seems more slow in a few areas and the scrolls are slow as well. Kinda was weird as I thought it would be just as fast but eh oh well.
The only thing that annoys me about the movies in the instant queue is that my connection can change (as I live in an apartment and charter splits the connection) so it will go from HD to a different quality back to HD and such, which isn't a fault of the system just my connection. That and I've notice everything comes in 2 channel rather than surround formats which isn't a big deal just sometimes annoying.

I believe Netflix is working on 5.1 audio............but again the limitation is going to be the end users connection & how consistent it is.

Unless that very recently changed, all audio is in stereo.

That's why I said "they are working on it", not "they have it available now" :)

I had it on xbox and I loved it. I watched TOS Star Trek season 1 and it was in HD and looked pretty good.. I watched a lot of movies too and the load times were short and the menus well laid out. Then my xbox red ringed and i got a PS3, which I really like except for the netflix. The load times are lond, the disc is annoying and the menus suck. Star Trek wasn't in HD and it looked terrible. Its another notch in xbox live's belt, they smoke PSN in almost every way, except price.

I think it will be great once it is in 5.1. Its hard for me to do 2 channel HT when everything I watch is pretty much in 5.1 but no big deal. I still use it mostly for TV shows and things like that, that really don't have to be in 5.1 at all. I do think if the PS3 can improve it will bring it closer to the Xbox and in terms of live value but for now I'm still a xbox fan.
