making speakers in-wall...sort of

I am thinking of getting VM20's for my front and center speakers. I have an LED Samsung with a slim wall mount and the tv is about 2 inches off the wall (LOOKS AWESOME!!!!!!). Anyway, I wanted to try to have a flat look when it came to the speakers but the custom B&W's were out of my budget lol.
With the VM 20's, I love their look but they are just under 6 inches off the wall with the wall including the bracket.
I was thinking of boxing out my drywall to recess the speakers a little bit. I was thinking of have the speakers about halfway in the wall so there would be 3 inches in and 3 inches out of the wall.
Does anyone know if this would be good/bad/indifferent on the sound quality?

Not really sure to be honest. I guess it would depend if the VM20's have a rear port, then it may be an issue boxing them in like that. If they don't, then I wouldn't see a problem, not too familiar with them so I'll leave it to somebody with experience. Good luck.

Take a look at the link in post #6 of this thread. These are not VM's but a similar sized speaker, then you could ask mantis for details if you need some, he would probably be very helpful.
