There is a new SurroundBar troubleshoting thread that may help you. Try it out first, and only thing I can think of with my limited dealing/troubleshooting of the SB is to check your gain switch and make sure they are both on the same channel too. Welcome to Club Polk.

Stewart, which product are you exactly talking about?

IE: SB 42" and SB 50" requires a seperate receiver since they both are NON powered.

The IHT has 140 watts driving the SB and 120 watts driving the subwoofer. Depending on the size of your room, this isn't huge.

Another point, what type of TV you are driving the IHT with? Older TVs (CRT etc...) have line level out and NO pre-out. If it is the case, it is quite normal you would need to crank the level that much louder to achieve the same desired O/P level. For example, I have similar results with the HITMASTER over the holiday. When used with my Sony external RCA connections, I had to crank either the TV or HITMASTER volume very high (3/4 - MAX) in order to get decent sound out while on the PS3 and 360, the volume control of the HITMASTER was kept betwween 1/4 - 1/2 with more than satisfactory O/P level. Therefore, you have to remember that your component must include some form of built in pre-amp in order to provide the optimum at the O/P.

    Cheers!
