I prefer the Harmony remotes. I know that the 890 does RF, i think the Harmony One does as well as some of the more expensive ones.

+1 on the Harmony remotes. I owned an 880 and it was awesome. To clarify Zeros' post, the 890 does RF, the Harmony One does not.

I haven't used Harmony but own and love several Universal Remote Control (URC) RF remotes, including the MX-800, MX-850, and MX-950.

    Good luck!

I have used Harmony, and got rid of it within two months. Prior, I had a URC MX-500&IR Clone combo for many years. I figured I'd try a Harmony, and found out I absolutely hated their programming interface. The Harmony remotes feel much lighter weight, which for me, translated to a 'cheaper' feel.(YMMV)

I'll say this about Harmony remotes, if you have a very few components to control, they can't be beat for the simplicity, but if you need anything more advanced, look elsewhere.

I currently use a URC MX-880, and it's fantastic. You can program it to do things the way YOU want, instead of having to 'trick' it into doing so, as with Harmony. As with any of the URC professional remotes, you need to make sure you're getting them from an authorized dealer, or you won't have the programming software. (IOW, don't buy one from flea bay)

To prevent errors when buying Logitech remotes, the Harmony One DOES NOT have RF. The newer Hamony 900 does. Hope this helps.

You don't need a RF remote. Just buy on ebay the Radio Shak RF repeater. They look like small black pryminds. Cost about $40 EBay. You then can use ANY REMOTE.

I'm not sure how well the Radioshack ones work, but the Belkin version of this is useless. CFL bulbs interfere with it and it would have serious range problems. I finally switched to a wired IT repeater, which works well.

    Good points anonymouse.

I have used themfor 15 years and they work well.

    Hear are a few hints.

Bulbs: Rotate the transmitter and reciever for best results. Experi9emnt with positions. Some times pointing them in different directions helps.

The range depends on the number and thickness on the walls. YMMV. RF remotes have the same issue however.

The closer the reciever is to the equipment the better.

They work as well as the RF remotes that I have also tried.

The old Radio Shak model looks like a pyrimind and is sold only on ebay cheap. The new model costs more money.

I even used one outside for 3 years near my hot tube and I live MA. I just locate it under the porch so it doesn't get wet.

Finally they will allow All your remotes do work like a RF remote.

I love locating all my equipment out of sight and in closets.

    Have a blast
