The biggest savings come from unplugging things that get HOT when left on. My sub amp, HTPC, and wireless router were hot when left on, so I turn them off and unplug them.

I was at BB today and saw a power strip made by Rocketfish? for $40. You plug your TV or Computer into the 'main' power outlet and anything you do not need on standby in the other. When the TV or Computer goes into standby the strip cuts power to the other devices!

This is a great idea. Then when you turn the TV back on the other devices turn on with it.

Hrmm... yeah, that could be the difference. My electric bill is usually $60-$75 depending on whether. I leave the amp on because it sounds like crap for about 30 minutes after i figure power it up, so it's easier this way. :D

I would like to move to your area. Is it near the North Pole or what? My bill is never sub $300.00 a month. In the summer time, it swings above $500.00. Damned those minimum wage electric reader guys, they probably do not bother to read the damned meter...just fill out the BS usage form.:D

Alright, dumb question of the day. Do most power strips / power conditioners still provide spike / strike protection if you simply flip them OFF when not is use?
