I took my oldest daughter to see this tonight. Mom was tired from too much Christmas and the youngest was off on Ski Patrol duty and we really had nothing to do, so we headed to the theater. I had not seen any trailers, previews or anything other than a movie poster so I had no pre-conceived idea of what we were going to see.

There may be some that say it strays too far from the original story lines. There may be some that say it pays too much homage to the original story lines and has no current relevance to its intended audience. Some may say there is too much action and not enough detective work. Some may say it is beyond plausibility. There may be lots of different opinions.

I say........I enjoyed all 129 minutes of this film. My daughter and I give it “two thumbs up”!

We liked it and recommend that you go see it (or definitely put it on your Netflix/Blockbuster list).

That's all folks.

I will probably see this movie after DVD release. The trailers didn't appeal to me to much, mostly for the reason that I don't care for Downey all that much.

My GF and I think it looks pretty damn cool. We may go see it tomorrow. Either that of the Imaginarium of dr parnaccus. Or 2012.

One of my favorite childhood book series although I barely recall anything about it so I couldn't tell you how close to the books this movie is. I don't recall so much fighting from Holmes but I believe Watson was the muscle/brawler in this dynamic duo but I could be wrong. I do recall Holmes being addicted to snuff (opium I think) which wasn't depicted in the movie unless I missed it somehow; however, I digress.

This was a very good movie. R Downey, Jr was fantastic and the pairing with Jude Law worked well. There's a certain Robert Conrad/Ross Martin Wild, Wild, West feel to them (1965). On the other hand, to be nitpicky, the antagonist just wasn't menacing nor diabolical enough to weigh out the heavy performance from Downey and Law.

Dialogue was a bit difficult to hear but I'm that way whenever presented with mumbled English dialect so I look forward to the Blu-ray with subtitles on.

The movie is long and at times I felt it until the plot picked up speed again. The ending was left open (e.g. Casino Royale) for part 2. I can't quite put my finger on it but I just don't feel like there's much replay value here other than my desire to read the subtitle.

Highly recommended but you could wait to rent it.

This was an anti-climatic moment for me. Growing up reading the Arthus Conan Doyle novels, I guess I should have anticipated as such...guy ritchie as director should have been an even larger signifier..

I totally diagree...but that's why they make lots of different types of movies, isn't it.

I bet there are movies you ablsolutely think are great...that I don't like at all...

Since I started this thread...I will continue to highly recommend this movie.

A rental, at best, free rental if you can swing it. To sum this one up....boring. By far Guy's worst film. The acting was ok, the storyline was 2nd grade level, about the only thing this film really had going for it was some fairly good visuals and film score...and McAdams (shes hot).

What a let down. Oh, and enough with these Saving Private Ryan action sequences with no sound. Doing this removes all emotion from an action sequence and just makes it lifeless.
    If...
Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.
Ron loves a film = don't even rent.

    In your own words...

Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.

Since I started this thread with a thumbs up...we obviously disagree.

Then I'll probably enjoy it as well....assuming it comes out before the end of the world as we know it.

The Zimmer soundtrack was decent, but a bit too parochial for general listening. Fits the movie fine. Far too much action; not enough intelligence.

I watched it last night. I feel it is more akin to the original books than the Hollywood Basil Rathbone series. Yes it has action but deals more with the characters and the mental badminton they play. You have to pay attention and think. I like that.

From a home theater aspect, it has some seriously low end that shook the walls of my house.
