Has anyone here setup vintage Polks in a 5.1 setup?

I think that's what I'm going to try to do in my bedroom. I have Monitor 7's, Monitor 4's, and Mini-Monitor II's.

Any thoughts on on this?

Ive used 10b's as mains, with 4a's as rears and a 4.5 for the center and it sounded great. I would have kept using it that way if I had the room.
Most of them only hear how loud it sounds, and the rest of us hear everything else -

I have RTA 11TL's as mains, a CS400i as a center. I was told to keep a look out for Monitor 4's or something similar for surrounds - right now I have Monitor 30's. I think it's a great sound for home theatre.

I have monitor 7's for the mains and 5's connected up for the surronds. They all sound great and I leave the settings as "Full Sound" instead of cutting off the lower frequencies. The pre-out powered sub fills in perfectly! Size is an issue I guess? but theses are light years ahead of anything comparable in price for today's market.

    GO for it

    Vintage Polk 5.1 works.

I'm using SDA-1Cs as mains and Monitor 5s as surrounds. No Center, I prefer 'Phantom' but I have some Monitor 4s laying around that I might try in the center sometime.

    I say try it.

I'm using SRS 2's as my main speakers, CS400 as my center, and Monitor 10 Series 2 as the rear speakers. So far, I like this setup well.

I am going to try Mon5s for fronts, Mini Monitors (new style) for rears & a VM20 for a center. Probably not ideal but, it'll have to sound better than the built-in speakers my TV has now!:D

I am running SDA 2Bs for main fronts (a 275 for center) and monitor 10s for the surrounds. They sound very good for home theatre use. Using the Denon 5910 DVD player and a Denon 3800CL for Blu-Ray, paired with the Denon 4802 Reciever. Seems like a good set up to my eyes and ears.

    I have Mon7b's &/ or RTA8TL as fronts, a CSi5 center and Mon5jr (small ones) as rears.
I also have some VS-25's that will go in there somewhere, once I get them tweeked. (same CI size as Mon 5's) I had Monitor 50/ CS245i/ Monitor 30's before and I love the Vintages' sound alot more. :)

gdb: FWIW I would suggesting get a bigger/ deeper response center. Something with 6.5's) I had a CS245i (55hz min), at first and it did not match very well. I think the Vm20 is too high a response as a center (100hz min) with Mon 5's. Just my opinion. :p

Who else would LOVE IT if Polk came out with a "vintage" center to match the Mon/ SDA speakers? YEH

SDA SRS 2.3TL's for mains, and RTA 12C's for L&R surrounds, with an Intimus 6C Center Channel Speaker (it blends well with the mains). Rear surrounds are JBL E50's. Subs are three MFW-15's together under the 61" Sammy TV and a Conquest sub to the rear behind the seat (approx 7 ft)

    Nice setup Bill,
I take it you got rid of the Paradigm CC390 for the Aperion Intimus 6C Center Channel Speaker? That AI 6c's look nice. How do they compare?

We just moved about 6 weeks ago and I only have room for 1 system for both music and HT now so I have been experimenting between speaker setup's-SDA-1C's in front, 10B's as rears and a 5jr as center. I also have 5 Boston Accoustic VR-M60's that I alternate depending on the mood. Sooner or later I am either going to store or sell one of the set-ups.

I had 10Bs as mains with 7s as rears and a CSi5. I now have 12s in front and the 10Bs in the rear. I did an A-B comparison with the 12s and 10s, and as was recently, discussed, the 12s are less dynamic and lose a lot in the mid range...but then when I switched to the 10Bs which I have listened to for 25 years, they sounded too bright....with movies, I could barely tell a difference between the two, but with music, a definite difference...the 12s are new the household....

Ha! I guess It's pretty common, then. I hooked up my Monitor 7's as fronts and my Monitor 4's as rears... I tried using a Mini Monitor as a center, but it honestly could have sounded better. Now I'm searching for something to use as a center. I might try a monitor 4 next.

I have sda 2b as my mains, monitor 7a's as my surrounds, and monitor 5's as rears in a 7.1 system. I had my 12c's as the surrounds but couldn't convince my wife to let me keep them there, so my son took them.

    Awesome!

The Paradigm db was rated at 108 where the Intimus is rated at 89. Paradigm highs were too high for my taste and they did not blend well with the 2.3's where the Intimus is "right one" with the 2.3's. They also have an excellent soundstage and are adaptable (switch on the back) for free standing or placing in a cabinet. I will be updting my "System Showcase" pics later this weekend after Chrismas slows down.

1C fronts, Monitor 4 surround, and CS250 center. Will probably add a second CS250 above the screen as per a seperate thread. Sometimes I set the center to phantom and use the SDA array to create the center channel. Worked well when between a crt, but with the projector, the center channel may be needed.

In love with SDA since 1984

2CH: SDA SRS (new caps) with NAD 541I, NAD 917 and modded Phase 400 (soon to be NAD 208)

HT: SDA 1C (new caps, SL2500s, bass mod) with NAD T763 and Monitor 4 as surround

Other vintage stuff, Sansui G9000, Pioneer 1980

I have (4) Monitor 10B's as the L/R fronts and rears. Even better, I have a pair of Monitor 4's as STEREO centers (using an old Yamaha DSP-A1). The best thing about Polks is all of the tweeters match in timbre, and I can set all the speakers at "full range".

That's OK! I started this HT business 3.5 years ago when I was 62 and I didn't know anything about it. Learned from the forums online by talking with all the people that are into it and reading alot of the posts about what others have done. I really enjoy a good movie.

I have 10b's up front, Rt/Fx's in the rear, with a csi3 center and an Outlaw Lfm1 plus sub.

I get tons of compliments on it's sound from our friends. I would like a different center though.
My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself.

My wife got me the Paul McCartney live NY (new stadium) concert DVD and it sounds awesome on the system below. I listen to music mostly (SACD, DVD-A, and CDs) and the old speakers seem to hang in there just fine. Go for it.
