    Well stated Everpress.
    I knew this would start a firestorm when I replied ... :)
My immediate thoughts were towards the dynamics of a crowd.
....a crowd throwing stuff at a cop. If it were 12 year olds having fun , thats one thing , adults , completely different story.
We all know how situations escalate when crowds are involved.
In my mind , having a gun "drawn" means pointed and ready to fire at some unlucky ****. What I saw in the video was an officer , in a crowd which was throwing snowballs at cars , with his weapon "at the ready".
My personal experience also sways my opinion. In my case it was kids having fun pitching snowballs at me as I rode by. Later that day , the fun stopped when the snowball with a rock loaded in it hit my helmet.
So , a snowball isn't always a snowball and none of us were in that cops situation.
Again , I don't see anything wrong with what was on the video.

...when I was a kid, we used to toss snowballs at each other all the time. One time, a patrol car got caught in the crossfire, and was struck by a few snowballs. That cop responded by getting out of his car with his SHOTGUN! We all scattered as quickly as we could and in all directions. The cop called backup and within a minute or two there were a half dozen cruisers all over the neighborhood, and for more that two hours they searched for us. I have never been so scared in my life. This was in an excellent neighborhood just north of the Twin Cities. I can understand the need for any officer to use caution, but answering a snowball fight with a firearm is over the top. I understand from the more recent posts that there is other information that has come to light in this particular case that may put this mess in a very different light, but my experiences from thirty years ago are still quite fresh in my mind.

I saw this video on one of the local news channels the day it happened. Everpress is right, if you were to see the FULL story you'd quickly realize that the cop did nothing wrong, which cannot be said about the crowd.

Now that I think about it, if I was him I probably would have stayed in my car.

As far as how he handled it, to each their own.

LOL.... no need for that but try looking down the wrong end of a 30-06 sometime. I am not haunted by it, but I will never forget it either.

I thought it was a shotgun?
That cop responded by getting out of his car with his SHOTGUN!

    REGARDS SNOW
Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

I little story from me, Yes I'll never forgot this....

I worked for an alarm company which did Video, Burglar, Fire, Panic systems. I was an alarm tech, many companies pays us to get over there to check for broken windows, doors, or just bad devices for the alarm. So one night I'm working 7pm to 7am, 2am or so a company had had some trouble / alarm problem it just keeps going off. So I go over there, I radio the central office which I can from. I tell him to make sure he calls the police office because this alarm is also wired to them. This works as when this alarm goes off an alarm goes off on the police office also. So I'm working on the alarm system which is by the back door, I'm there for 10 mins or so... I get a loud banging on the back door, I get really quiet. Saying to myself who the F is that, I'm not answer the door. Ok so they know I'm there, and the BANGING JUST REALLY LOUD NOW! It's getting a little crazy now, since the company trucks doesn't say anything on them. So I answer the door since I thinking he remove the door if not... The alarm central office guy forgot to call the police office. They are getting an alarm over there send a car to check it out. He calls for back up, back up, and they setup. I answer the door since I think he will removed it if not. I got a gun on my head, there's another gun to me besides this police guy, then behind the door is another guy with a shotgun to my head.

We all laughed about it later, It was nice since I stayed cool and didn't do any fast in front of them. I think I **** myself.... And no I'm not going to forget that night ever.

sorry, I am not a firearms expert by any means. It was one of those long thingies with a tube on one end and something that he pressed to his shoulder on the other... I ran so fast that I never turned around to look back:p

I agree. If someone was throwing snowballs with broken glass at me I'd want to give them a lollipop.

A piece of broken glass in the eye or a rock to the temple? That sounds an awfully lot like maiming-types of injury to me, then throw in the fact that there seem to be dozens of people doing the throwing and against one guy.

So yes, at least in Arizona, I would be justified in drawing on them, at least as a citizen afraid for life and limb.

Off duty, tired, situational awareness was down, probably in retrospect would of stayed put until back-up arrived, fortunately they don't let DC cops practice enough with their weapons to hit anybody on purpose.
