lSi25 Muddy sound, weak bass

Hi all,

I just got my LSi25 set up yesterday and I'm disappointed with the sound output - it sounds extremely muddy and
weak - and the bass is almost non existent unless I crank up the bass
volume to 50% on each of lsi25's subs, and that's not normal. I
checked my receiver settings -

My connection is set up like this:

HK AVR240 Receiver --> RCA cables (pre out) --> NAD 270 --> Bi-wired --> LSi25

L/R speakers set to "large"
crossover freq set to 80hz on my HK receiver per the LSi25 manual
crossover freq knob on LSI set to 80hz

soft clipping off
bridge mode off

cables are all tight and pushed all the way in.

I'm thinking it's either the RCA cables or the receiver...any ideas?

attached some pics too

thanks F1 - I removed the jumpers, sound is better. Does anyone know what's the factory setting for the sub gain? is it at the 12'oclock position?

Vaga, You might want to check your manual.
    http://www.polkaudio.com/downloads/manuals/home/LSi25Manual.pdf

There are no setups documented as you have those hooked up, especially with the bi-wire cables. I guess in a sense you are basically doing the same as just using speaker cables and the straps, but I think you would get alot better results using the RCA hookups to power the built-in subwoofers, speaker wires to the top posts only and with the straps removed. There is some clear pictures in the manual. Also might want to invest in some better RCA cables, on par with the quality of the rest of your system, which should crank once it is setup correctly. Nice system :)

I have signalcable RCA interconnects coming tomorrow - the system should be all set then. As for using additional RCA cables via sub pre-out and sub-in on the LSi25, I might give that a try - but I'm pretty satisfied with the current sound. Great speakers. The NAD C270 gives is a very nice punch.

I cranked up some MP3 electronic music (tiesto, ferry corsten) as well as some W.Germany classical CDs (beethoven piano concertos, arrau). There's some background noise at -20dB and higher, so hopefully that'll be resolved with the upgraded RCA interconnects. Electronic music sounded very clean and bright, but I thought the classical sounded somewhat damp, althought that could be the recording.

Another note, all my source connections to the AVR240 are through toslink optical cables - any suggestions on that?

I prefer coax. TO me, and from what I have read, it has a 'fuller' sound. The only thing I have even bothered to do a direct comparison of though is my HD Comcast box. I do get a slightly (maybe 10%) fuller signal using coax, but it also has a ground loop 'hum' so I use Toslink for that, until I get a chance to install a dedicated ground.

Forget MP3's, rip them to either Windows Lossless or FLAC.

Got my signalcable RCA interconnects - wow...this system now sounds absolutely amazing. Completely blown away. Downgrading to 2.0, but instead using quality parts now seems to be a good decision after all. The apt looks much cleaner as a result.

The speakers are too close together and need toe in.
