We are getting slammed here in Southern Maryland. About 12 inches right now and have yet to see a snow plow come down our street. Down here, it's called a 5 loafer storm. Food Lion was stripped of bread when I stopped last night, because there will NEVER be another bread delivery:rolleyes:

I don't even own a snow shovel we get it so infrequently. I'd pay a kid to do it but nobody has one around here. A shovel that is, plenty of kids, no tools! I think I'll crack open the cognac and turn up the tunes. The sun will melt the snow by Monday! No heartchecks for me!

    What part of Western NC?
We're planning to visit my grandmother in the Mountains out there... I spent every summer (and most Christmas/Winter breaks) in those mountains... So I practically grew up out there.

Yeah, its a conspiracy. We seem to get a couple feet in one night and by the next afternoon its all melted and you hardly need a jacket. The next day it can be like summer. I love it. I have a friend who quit his job in MD and moved there pretty much on a whim. He loves life now. ;)

Don't tell me that JUST yet... i have to get a nice nest egg going, and see if i can put the transfer through work first.

At least the good thing is that i wouldn't have to quit to move out there. :D

According to the news (6ABC), the center of the storm is off the coast of VA and moving towards us (PA/NJ/DE), they're also watching another storm around Ohio which is moving East. They expect them to join forces and it will pick up again.
They're calling for 12-18 in the NJ/PA/DE area (including Long Island, NY), at a rate of about 2" an hour.
    snow-12-18.jpg

Anyway it looks like we have a few inches down already in West Chester, PA. I actually expected more by now. I'll probably go out and snow throw in a few hours. Its just not worth doing unless there is enough on the ground. My driveway it about 13' wide and about 125' long, and theres the parking area too. Its at least an hour or two job. I really want to get a blade for my tractor--that would be cool.

Last time I waited two long and the snow was higher than the snow thrower--that was not easy. At least this time I made sure I got the thrower out of the shed BEFORE the storm-I couldn't open the frozen lock--once I did get it open I couldn't open the damn door (The shovels are also in the shed). Then having to push it across snow covered grass??? No Thank You. this time, I brought it out last night, fired it up, greased the chute, tightened the cables, checked the oil, and it's ready to go in the garage.

At a minimum I try to clear out the area at the end of my driveway at least. If not the Plows come through and plow a 3' high pile of compacted snow/ice and slush in front of it and twice now they also took out my mailbox.

On a positive note, I'm looking forward to going sledding down the hills in my backyard with my boys today.:D

I don't know what's up with my boys though--I told my 4yo to look out the window this morning, and he did and said 'Oh, it snowed, hmm' without much excitement at all.. I guess since its not a school day...

They are predicting 20"-30" in my area. I got my snowblower out of my parents barn Thursday and got it running again. Looks to be @ 10" on the ground so far. Fired it up @ 10 this morning to implement Phase I of my Emergency Snow Removal Plan. I have a 4 wheel drive truck but my tires are toast so I am sitting tight. My wife does have an all wheel drive Pilot with new tires.

We shall see, I don't think the kids will go back to school untill next year though.

Snowblowers?!? Heck, my boys (& girls, yes they work too) asked me when I was going to buy a snowblower. I told them when they all move out I'll get one. When asked why I told them because I had them as "snow-movers".:D

When the drifts from shoveling get over 8' the old man (me) has to do it since I'm the only one, so far, that can throw it that high over the top. Man does it really, REALLY, suck when there's 3-4' of that slushy, salty, frozen junk at the end of the driveway...
Remember, when you're running from something, you're running to something...-me

Man, 3-4 hours of snowthrowing. I just couldn't keep up with the snowfall. By the time I was done one section, there was already another inch or so of snow on the ground.
I'll finish up tomorrow when its done falling. At least I took care of the bulk of it tonight. Its not expected to stop until early morning tomorrow.

Record snowfall for the month of December (at least in the Philly region) was 21" back in 1909. We may just top that if not come real close. (of course we've had much deeper snows in Jan, Feb, etc.) Kicker is its not even officially Winter yet.

Cherry Hill Mall (NJ) closed at 7pm. King of Prussia Mall (PA) closed at 6PM. I'm sure there are many others---Being the last and usually busiest weekends for Holiday Gift shopping, this will likely hurt sales pretty bad.
Snow Emergencies being declared all over the place so that basically keeps people off the road unless they absolutely have to be out.
PennDOT has over ~475 plows out and they can't keep up with it either.

Of course I forgot to get the mail while I was out. Dammit.

Well anyway, here's a few more pics.
