QOTD: If you had to live in another country, which one would it be?

Now nobody is questioning allegiances or anything like. This is purely speculative so don't go getting your panties in a bunch and responding with "None! AMERICA! HELL YEAH!" It's just a question. Any reason at all is a good reason. Whether you like the weather, the economy is better or it's the source of your favorite jam. Any reason at all. Maybe you just hate and want to get the hell away from me? That's fine too. Just tell us why.

Me, I think if I couldn't live in the U.S. I'd probably go to Australia. Why? Mainly because it's not Canada...just kidding! It'd still be Austrailia. The weather is nice, the people are simple and easy going (No worries, mate!) and the land is gorgeous. It's about as close to America as one can get outside of America. Politics aside of course.

There's a few countries I could live in, after having experienced them as a military brat.

1.) England. Lived there 7 years and still have friends there, so that's my easy choice. That and I speak the language :)

2.) Mexico. I loved Cuernavaca, the cost of living is obviously cheaper, and I know enough Spanish to live there. Lots of ex-pats in Cuernavaca, and it's relatively safe.

3.) Amsterdam. What was I thinking about again?......

4.) Belize. Never been, but it looks gorgeous and sounds to be "American friendly" both in regards to government and the way we are treated there.

    Peru

I was going to write the same thing. Can't believe someone else beat me to it. I would ultimately prefer Ecuador from a cultural standpoint, but Peru (Lima in particular) would probably be a nice compromise for a bit more political stability.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

Panama...best fishing in the world, mountains, jungles, warm weather and 2 oceans to choose from only hours away from each other! I dove and fished Tahiti/French Polynesia a few years ago and it was amazing but it is too damned far from everything, getting luxury items or even a steak can be a pain. I've given up on Mexico as far as living there but Akumal and Zihuatanejo will always be 2 of my favorite places in the world.

Belize is awesome, probably #3 on my list after New Zealand (all the fun of Australia without the things that bite) and Israel (I'll challenge anyone to find a country with more hot women).

Belize might still have the program where you can pretty much buy citizenship & they have a number of incentives for people to retire there. NZ is the exact opposite- it's very hard to move there if you're over 30 - if their immigration formula is still the same as it was 5 years ago (unless you're a vet- someone has to take care of the sheep). If you're Jewish, Israel is easy... dunno what the rules are for the rest of us.

    Ideally, Venezuela, because of:

    -Great weather
    -Great food.
    -Great beaches.
-The most beautiful women you can imagine (is it 6 Miss Universe already?)
    -Wonderful, friendly people.

    Unfortunately,

    -You can't trust the police
-You WILL get robbed; it's not a matter of if, but when. If you're lucky, you'll survive.
-People complain about the government in the U.S. Multiply that by 1,000,000,000

So, I'm happy where I am and don't plan to leave.

You'll be hearing from my lawyer, then.

As for the rest of you, what's with the one word responses? Tell us WHY. That's the point of "discussion". A one word response is like sitting in the Senate during a Bill proposal and when it comes time to vote just saying "Present."

For those that have, YAY! Thank you for enlightening us and participating!

****, I forgot about Iceland- if you're more into blonds, then take Iceland over Israel. Bjork is probably the ugliest woman in the entire country. Gulf stream means that the weather isn't as bad as you'd think... just be ready for the 12 hours of daylight for the entire month of December.
