center speaker will block TV - solutions?

After setting up the TV stand it seems that the CS2 will block the TV by about 2 inches.

I have a panasonic 54 plasma. Its mounted on its base and the base extends out quite a bit. The center speaker will rest on the TV stand. The display area is 6 inches from the TV stand. The CS2 speaker is 7 3/4 high.

Raising the TV by putting stuff under its stand will not work since the stand protrudes out so much that the speaker has to rest on it.

Any creative solutions? I would hate to get rid of the CS2 and go with a different center speaker

The CS2 is on order and can be cancelled...

Send the CS2 to me and I'll ship you my CS1! :D

Seriously though, do you have a picture of the setup? Often times if we get a look at the config, we might be able to make better suggestions.

That center door might give you a place to set it - but the width looks alittle short for the width of CS2, am I right? Is wall mouting out of the question?

cant wall mount - there is a half wall behind the TV. each of the door on the TV stand are ~20. Less than the 21 1/4 :(

Are there walls on the inside of the tv stand? If not just slide that in remove the door and you are set. I have a cs2 arriving on friday myself and am looking at nearly the same issue... need to wait until it gets here before I make any modifications to my stand.

yes - there are walls on either side. Worst come worst, I will cut the walls - but trying to avoid that. Another thing would be there on how to get rid of the glass to get the enclosure open.. and how it would look aesthetically.

Starting to look at the VM20/10 now as a backup... which one will pair well with the monitor 70?

when putting together my system on paper I was concerned about where to put a center. I ended up getting a stand that places the tv on a riser above the top shelf. It looks pretty cool and allows for a large center or other gear below the tv. the tv mounting plate also detatches and is wall mountable for farther versatility. now if I can figure out where to put more amps..:)

Devil, as I see it you have three choises.
    1. Wall mount (or pipe/ pillar mount) Like above ^^
    2. Make a shelf high enough to fit the CS2 under and set the tv on it.
    3. Get a SoundBar..........j/k :)

That TV is small enough that a wall mount will not cost that much. I would recommend getting a full extension one, as it makes connecting way way easier. If you want to go pipe/ pillar type, you can buy one like above or DYI one, as I did for my computer monitor (30" LCD TV) I used a 5/4X8 my wall plate is 6" wide) Hardwood 'pillar", full height, that I screwed to my desk (in my case) or you could screw it to your cabinet. When it is in place, it pushes against the wall at the bottom, also screwed to the desk at the top and then I ran a couple of 1/4" bolts to the wall about 6" above the bracket, so that it is hidden by the TV. When I do need to move it out, I support the TV, when unbolted from the wall. Course I have not had to do that in 4-5 years.

If you are really interested, I could sketch something up. I need to know what the weight of your TV is & what brand mount you want to buy.

The TV is a 54" plasma and probbaly weighs about 90-100 lbs. The mounting screws on the back are way higher than the half wall behind so I dont think it will go on it. The wife does not approve of a column. :(

Sorry, for some reason your TV looked smaller than it is...

I Know your WAF said no columns, but this one looks interesting. And would not require buying a whole new shelf system (as Super has) and can attach to the wall at any point. Doubt your wife would go for it though.

It says it is fully adjustable...I like the panel that hides the cables.

Looks like you are going with a smaller Center, given your WTB search.

Just saw yo are asking about the VM20 as a center. You may want to reconsider that move, given it only goes down to 80hz.....and your 70's are 40hz speakers.
I guess you could try one and see.

Since you don't seem to keen on the 'column', I would recommend trying a CS245i in the center space of your cabinet with the door off, or with the glass removed and a fabric in its place. I just sold one for $70, and they are around alot on the FS.

It is only 18" wide and I ran one for several years with Monitor 50's and was satisfied, well at least satisfied until I heard some 'hot-rodded' Mon 5, an Mon 7's. Then the Monitors went into storage... :p

Can you arrange your room and hang your TV on the wall.I love how my LG 50PS60 Plasma HDTV looks hung on the wall .I had it on a tv stand but when I got my CS2 ,there was no where to put it since it was to big to put in front of the TV and I did'nt what it on the floor ,so I just bought a good wall mount and hung it up on the wall.It makes it look bigger on the wall, but my house in my bedroom , all my walls are wood .It has 3/4" plyboard plus 1/4" panneling so I did'nt have to worry about trying to find the 2x4 to put the bolts in.I know it want fall since after I hung the mount on the wall ,I did a coulple of chin ups on the bars that is going to hold it and I weigh 200lb's.But they have them eletronic stud finders now which makes it easier if you have sheet rock and need to hit them in the dead center.Them plasma are heavy ,but still not as heavy as my old 32" CRT TV.my weighs around 80lbs without the stand,My old Vizio 42" did'nt weigh but 45LBs ,I was able to hang it by myself ,but not with my new plasma .It took me and a friend.I probally could have done it ,but I would hated breaking a $1100 new Plasma TV.

That is a good idea John, moving the room around to accomadate the new speaker. Crazy what we will do for our audio equipment, lol. I would imagine he has already thought of this option, but still a good idea.

I probably spent more time researching stands than most of my other gear. this stand is well worth the investment, holds a lot of gear and is built like a tank. very heavy and solid and the cherry finish matches polks cherry finish perfectly

I'm having the same center problem, so mine is on the bottom shelf of my TV stand and its aiming right at the coffee table. The only real option is getting a new stand. Theres no way I would get a smaller center, its pretty much the most important speaker for HT. In fact, I'm looking into a CSiA6. BTW, thats a sweet rig junior, those SDA's and A9's look great together.

@JohnE - Moving the room config is not an option given the layout and the furniture we have. Much cheaper to change anything else :)

@kcoc321 -That looks like a great solution to raise the tV- I will go check it out today and see if it would be palatable to the wife.

Here are 2 more thoughts - let me know if I am smoking crack.

#1 - Raise the TV - The TV is attached to the stand via 2 long poles. Given the weight of the TV, I am wondering if I can insert some wooden slugs into the metal pole area and have it gain an inch. The metal pole goes in abut 4-5 inches and is then screwed from the back. Is it a really bad idea to lose the screws and insert something to raise the TV?

#2 - Get another plasma TV. The TV is only 2 months old and within the Costco return policy of 90 days. I am sold on the panasonic plasmas over the LCD's and wondering if anyone knows of a 54-58 sized panny model that has the required clearance?

Another question about the CS2 speakers - Does it matter which side they lie down on? I am thinking not but better to check!

    Thanks!

I have a similar problem with a CSi a6 and have come up with a somewhat satisfactory solution until I can get a stand with a dedicated center shelf that will handle the CSi a6. Instead of placing the center channel speaker on the stand in front of the tv, I have placed the center channel speaker behind the television. Obviously, the situation is not totally ideal in terms of the sound field blocking effect of the vertical riser portion of the stand and the bottom inch of the television panel. However, the effect on sound quality is not a deal breaker for me in terms of a temporary soultion until I get a new stand.

Its hard to tell in this picture (or in person for that matter), but I stuck my TV on top of an Auralex Gramma and it now sits high enough that the CSi5 doesn't obstruct its view.

I can't see any way that having the center behind the TV wouldn't demolish it's sound quality.

I really hate this problem though, especially since I am faced with it as well.

Finding a spot for surrounds can be annoying too, but not quite as annoying

I thought I would share this I stumbled across after I replied. Someone on CL is giving away the TV mount portion, and they had a link to scan-design. I thought the "center in a drawer" was quite the WAF factor solution. (IF it is big enough..lol.)

It could be my perception, but sometimes I think the sound is a little boomier - perhaps from reflecting off of the back of the television and being reflected back to the wall. That could just be in my head though and it is very infrequent that I perceive that effect.

This seems like a recurring problem these days with all of the bigger screens coming out and being so affordable. Posted a pic below of my current setup. I've got my CS350 on top of the lightbridge, not ideal I know. I am currently shopping for a 50" plasma which takes up exactly the same footprint as my 42" LCDRP. I am then either going to build a shelf for the center that spans the piers or find some kind of pedestal that the center would go under and the TV would sit on top of.
