Rewired my TT today

Well I have the Project Debut III TT and it had the RCA's hardwired. Not fun. So I tore it a part. I installed some nice RCA Jacks and wired the ground wire to the TT. The sound is much better. I now have much better sound. I am using the cables I build here for now, but between tracks I am getting a hum. I had two others complain about it. It's not bad, but still annoying between tracks. I am experimenting with using a cap on the ground for noise suppression. I wish I had the coin for MIT's in this app.

If you ever get the cash, you should try Cardas tonearm wires. They are the bomb.

I'll look into that later. The next TT project is going to be making separate maple plinths for the motor and the rest. Maybe I'll do that pendulum style tt I love the looks of.

I have replacing the cable on my Yamaha PX-3 on my list of things to do. Its also hardwired. I bought the cable you made for Solid for his turntable from him. I'll let you know if I hear a hum or not when I get that far. I'll keep an eye on this thread in case you come up with a solution before then.

I know a few guys had great luck with my cables. I think it may be phono pre dependent? I have some new material for testing some new cables. I let you know how it works. BTW AQ cables have less hum.

Have you tried it without the groundwire on at all Ben? On my Pro-ject 6.9 When I use my Denon DL-160 cart I need the groundwire on. With the Clearaudio Aurum Classic I have hum in any configuration until I romove the groundwire from the table. Go figure.

I have tried it both ways. Best result was with the ground going to the actual pre, and not the phono pre.

Just for @hits and giggles, cover the wires with tinfoil . May be a shielding issue.

That seems to be a theme with their entire product line...

Have you tried grounding the base of the arm using one of the mounting screws to the chasis ground on the phono preamp?

    Not yet! Thanks Kim
