Hi Group,
My current setup is RTi8's front, CSi5 center, FXi3's surround. NAD T-747 A/V. Family room about 2000 cu ft. Open to dining & kitchen area an additional 1000-1500 cu ft. HT setup is facing sideways, not lengthwise towards dining area due to full wall fireplace on end of family room. Big archway opens to the dining/kitchen area. So I'm aware of the 3000-3500 total cu ft area needing to be pressurized.
Probably 40/40/20 % for HT, music, TV broadcast. Not a heavy bass type people. Just the wife and I for good clean bass with movies and music more so than with heavy bass. Were both retired and just set up our HT system except for the subwoofer.
Budget desires are around $500, plus or minus, preferrably under that. You always gotta add heavy sub shipping (sometimes). From all the groups opinions and experience it seems like the Velodyne's, SVS's, & HSU's are great. I've been studying the SVS PB10-NSD, the Hsu VTF-1 or STF-2, and the Vel DEQ10R. Kinda narrowed it down to these due to they are all around the 400-500 range except the STF-2. Going to the 12 inches kinda gets me out of budget almost. I also heard that the 10 inchers are a little tighter for music??? I know I'm kinda on the edge of cu ft here, but like I said I'm more on the tight clear bass than heavy stuff. I'm thinking these 10 inchers would fill my need? How would the Polk Micro Pro 3000 compare to these?
Has anyone really heard these different subs. Pretty hard to demo the SVS & HSU. Thanks for your thoughts & opinions, I got some budget money burning holes in my pockets for Christmas.

Out of those choices, PB10-NSD. If you can get a demo, DSW Pro 600. The MicroPRO 3000 won't dig as low as a couple of those mentioned but it's VERY tight and musical.
I've owned 5 SVS subwoofers and demo'd most of the new Polk lineup. They match up pretty well until the bass gets really low. That's still a bit of an Achille's heel for Polk Audio. My standouts would be the DSW Pro 600, MicroPRO 3000 and the lowly and tiny, PSW111.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
Welcome to the Club!
I would say go with the SVS, also try Epik subwoofers.

Demo in your own home with their return policy and send back if you dont like. I went on a wild goose chase to demo speakers 80 miles from home and probably spent as much on travel and gas than it would have cost me to return

Get the 12 NSD if possible much better.

Great deal on the micro pro but will not like it for music. -
I have a psw505 that sounds great for HT and low volume music.

The music. It's a great sub with many options to blend well.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~
-
Not for music. I'd see it less as a HT subwoofer than for music. It's tight and fast, just what you'd want for music. As far as the price for either subwoofer, it's excellent...especially for the MicroPRO.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Now ive done the research on this particular sub and have listened to it with music

I don't need to call anybody. I have had it in my home on a variety of gear. Your research must be skewed and I hope for you that number isn't SPAM.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. However at low volumes I have yet to hear a Polk sub that sounds bad, Music or HT. PSW 505 sound muffled but the price cant beat it with a stick.
Thereagain im not a dedicated aduophile. And have listened to high end subs. -

Spam thats the number to Polk Tech.... I will go now, so you can help this person with his request. Ive said what I wanted about the micropro -
If you could find a HSU VTF3-MK3 I think you will be pleased. Of the 10"s you listed the SVS would be my choice.
The HSU I mentioned is a very good music and HT sub. CS is great too.
In my room I was botteming out the 3 3 (also had 2 MBM-12)and ended up with a SVS PB13, never looked back.Speakers: SDA-1C (most all the goodies)

My room situation is similar to yours and the pb10 works really well. The sub goes low and hits hard - you will be impressed. Definitely worth the money.
I did consider the HSU VTF-2 MK3, but the SVS got better reviews everywhere I looked, the price was better, & Tom impressed me when I spoke to him - he called from his cell on the way home from CES to speak to me about the purchase.bms

Well thanks for all the input. Really appreciate all your comments and opinions. I've pretty much come to the conclusion, that all of these subs that you or I have discussed are all on the upper level of quality for the price. Therefore I feel that I couldn't go wrong with any one of them. My gut tells me that tomorrow I will be calling SVS and ordering the PB10-NSD. As you mentioned, I can order it and demo it at home to my satisfaction. I value the input of you, the Polk Forum members, that's what got me started on the road to reviews and questions and decisions. Your time spent answering my questions are very much appreciated, even if I agreed or disagreed with them, they are still valued.
I am retired. As soon as my new sub arrives, I will continue filling the wood stove with oak, drink hot coffee with some Bailey's, stay inside out of the Minnesota cold & snow, and listen to music and movies while getting acquainted with my sub. Then I will report back to you-all. Thanks group.:)spnplgr

Now THAT sounds like a plan! The PB10 is an excellent choice....see if you can stretch a little bit for the PB12.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -

HSU or SVS you will be very happy based on 5 years of researching the internet response. I can't think of anyone unhappy with a HSU of SVS purchase. Polks new subs also seem great if you get them at discount via the ebay store. My Iron Man training/charity blog.
