But hey, those Italians think different so that must be how it is. America really must suck! We should all go to Italy because it's so much better there!

Where the hell are getting this male bovine excrement? Just because you have a bone to pick with Italians doesn't give you the carte' blanc to put words or thoughts in Italian American mouth and heads.

I resent your accusations and get the impression you are biased against Italians.

I am first and foremost an American and DAMN proud to be one. I am ALSO very proud of the nations and cultures that made me.....well, me.

Any of you have an issue with that? Is that "permissible" on this board?

Geeeez, some of you really need to lighten up a bit. BTW.....Thanks, Messiah. I gotcha'. ;)

I like spicey Italian sausage in my spaghetti. When I don't have time to make myself a gourmet meal, I think some good Italian sausage from the butcher can make any canned Prego taste like home cooking.

Why is it a mine field. It is a clip about an Italian American guy sharing his thoughts and feeling about growing up in an Italian family.

I don't label myself as a Polish-American, Austrian-American or Czech-American. I'm just an American with certain ancestry.

You SHOULD be proud of your heritage and no one here has put down any other ethnic group except against the Italians.

BTW YOU are the one making it a mine field.

Me, I'm proud to be an Italian American.

When my wife needs to cook something up quickly for dinner she buys Delmonte meat sauce and doctors it up. It is delicious. If my grandparents (RIP) knew this they would yell heresy!!!:D

That's alright. You know what Italians are known for......I guess he ain't got that, which is why............never mind. You get my drift. :D

Well, it's not German or Italian, or English, American or otherwise. It's mine! You can use the sauce as part of another recipe I have in that thread as well. Both of them are the bomb. At least to my taste palette and I'm as picky when it comes to food as I am when it comes to audio. ;)

I didn't say it, your boy tonyb did.

    But he's denying it.

As far as the minefield, it is. Sorry but, it is. Listen to the actual words of the video. They are EXTREMELY biased not just positively towards "Italian-Americans" but also against the other ethnic backgrounds. They even use derogatory terms for some of them.

But at the same time you are complaining that someone called Italians "wop" and that nobody gets chastised for bagging on Christianity but we all get chided for other things. Well, you're guilty of exactly what you are complaining about and all you can do is say I'm full of BS and ask where the justice is.

I didn't get upset and flame you. I felt that most of the comments from the Italians in this thread were a bit harsh but tonyb took it farther. But, then again, since I am assuming you all watched the video, the ethnic undertones of the video are what you all are agreeing with due to your staunch support of the video and the sentiments contained therein.

As far as "hatred towards Italians" goes, now that's BS. You want to talk "hatred" try being Polish and having to listen to every other jackass out there make "pollack jokes" and having to just "take it" 'cause it's just "good natured ribbing".

But, I digress. Obviously I'm out of line and I should just let all the Italians have the "Yay! Look at me! You all suck!" thread.

Those with misgivings about the state of Italian food in this country will REALLY want to attend next years Polkfest in my neck of the woods. NY/NJ area (Philly too to a degree) has the best Italian food in this country.

The only place I traveled that had as good or perhaps better Italian food was, oddly enough, Montreal.

The crappy Italian food joints around here are better than most Italian joints in other parts of the country. If I ever moved from this area, I would really miss the food.

I knew there was a long brewing reason why you are so hepped up about Italians. You should have seen what I went through growing up as and Italian kid in an Irish/Polish/Black neighborhood. I couldn't even get a break with my name which is "," I was always called "Armidago!" But you don't see me ranting and raving about why the Polish feel they are so special or why they look down on other ethnic groups.

C'mon John, the clip was just a guy sharing his thoughts and experiences growing up in an Italian home . . . that's it, nothing more, nothing less.

Sorry, being Polish and having to deal with jackasses making jokes has nothing to do with it and I'm pretty offended that you would even insinuate that I would be that shallow. I don't care where you or anyone else grew up. Rough neighborhood, friends of whatever nationality/race, I don't care. It's not a pissing contest. I'm not "hepped" about Italians. I'm not ranting and raving either. You made some silly comment about "hatred" and it made me laugh. Like Italians have some kind of undeserved reputation from The Mob and movies like The Godfather and Moonstruck and such. I used it to illustrate a point, which you missed.

here's the secret of the universe kids, cultures tend to dislike and distrust other cultures different from themm. it went all the way around, and I mean ALL the way around. it's up to us as individuals to rise above.

yeah, I've caught **** for being Italian, and gave others **** for being something else in my dumb capricious youth. Hell, I dont speak italian so other Italians even give me **** for not being a real Italian. Aint that something? My culture hinges on various Phonic abilities and not bloodline apparently

follow that up with only being half Italian? fuhgetaboutit. I apologize to no one for being me. No matter what anyone says, it's awesome being me.

there's nothing wrong with ethnic pride, it when it cuts you off from appreciating other cultures is when it's retarded. I love Italian food, but reading John's post about Pierogi and Kielbasa (kebasy....LOL) is now making me hungry for f*ckin pierogi and Kielbasa (thanks ****!).

thats Lou's soapbox lesson for the day, take it in Polkies.....take it in nice and deep :D

    Um, yes I have.

But, see, my family is Polish, Austrian and Czech. But apparently, according to Italians though, everyone else is uncultured swine and sucks.

Then the Italians wonder why there tends to be a negative view of Italians.

Guess I'll go have some of my bland Polish food like pirogi, kielbasa (not kebasy you heathens), home made sauerkraut and chrusciki that my mother is home cooking right now and getting ready for the family to come over for Christmas Eve dinner. I think I'll have a bottle of my Czech Pilsner, Pilsner Urquell (Plzeňský Prazdroj in actual Czech) to go with some fried kielbasa and pirogis covered in sauerkraut for dinner and finish it up with some Austrian Apfelstrudel (apple strudel to the rest of you and it's not pie) and a glass of my great grandmother's favorite, Einspänner (Austrian type of that Italian abomination "espresso").

The family still gets together every holiday, even though all but one of my grandparents has passed. My grandparents who were Polish always told me "Polski jest ważna, rodzina jest ważniejsza" (Polish is important, family is more important). My Austrian grandmother on my dad's side would tell me that Austrians do not brag about what they do, they just do. There is no need for useless boisterous posturing. She was also very critical of Italians, Greeks, French and Spanish who she considered very flamboyant and untrustworthy. My Czech grandfather died when my dad was a boy so I never really knew him but my great aunt and uncles were typical hot-headed Czech who are proud to be Czech but modest at the same time.

The times that I have gone to places where there is immense Polish influence or even just a Polish-American festival here in NJ, just asking a simple question like "Where's the bathroom?" in Polish (Gdzie jest toaleta?) gets the response of wide eyed amazement and "Jesteś Polski? Cudowny!" (You are Polish? Wonderful!) followed by hugs and food shoved in my face.

At the PA Renaissance Faire, when I walk up to the Bavarian tent where the local German-American Society is cooking hoards of sausages and schnitzels as well as Goulash and ask "Könnten Sie bitte etwas Wienerschnitzel und Weißwurst", the looks on the stern German faces of the grandmothers doing the cooking lighten as if they were talking to their own grandchildren and I can usually get extra helpings!

In a Polish home, if you are offered a drink, it's a courtesy to a guest. If you are offered food as well, you are a welcomed guest and treated like family. If no food is offered, make your stay short because you are not welcome. To this day, even if I go visit my grandmother in the nursing home during dinner, she still tries to hand me half of her dinner plate.

Just because you're Italian doesn't mean you're the only rich culture with an emphasis on family. Just because you feel that the Olive Garden is unfairly labeled an "Italian joint" doesn't mean that Americans only know bland food and that there is nothing out there better than Italian cooking. It also doesn't mean that other cultures look down on America as well. Most of my very extended family in Poland and the Czech Republic that still stays in touch thinks fondly of America and is very proud of their American family members. But hey, those Italians think different so that must be how it is. America really must suck! We should all go to Italy because it's so much better there!

    Yeah, thanks but I'll pass.

This whole post is an over reaction to what was said. It also seems that there is some anti-Italian bigotry in your family by your own words above.

Maybe I was wrong about you being hepped up about Italians because of the harassment in your youth.

Why you feel the need to crap up this thread is beyond me but then again having a messiah complex it is easy to understand.

No-one said anything about the Polish or Czech culture but you took offence by reading more into Tony's post.

    Pot, kettle, black!

I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore
