PSW505 surround issue

Hi,
I have a brand new PSW505 I received from Newegg a couple of weeks ago. The foam surround has a one inch section that is loose - looks like whatever was used to seal it at the factory got brittle or was weak to begin with. If I push it back in, it flattens out, but once the sub gets up to a decent volume, that section pops out, so it isn't completely sealed. Does anyone have suggestions as to how to repair this? Some audio video forums I have seen suggest using aquarium silicone to stick it back into place.

Unfortunately, Newegg is of no help as far as their return policy goes. Doesn't seem to be affecting the sound, so I don't know how serious this really is. If possible, I'd rather fix myself instead of going to the trouble to ship it to a repair facility.

Jeff is right give Polk Customer Service a call...they'll advise and help you resolve this to your satifaction...perhaps even send you what you need for the repair if you want to go that route!

Thanks for the tips. From doing some more research on the web, I may have my terminology wrong. I don't think it's the surround (sounds like that's physically part of the cone) - it's the foam gasket that is between the edge of the cone and the subwoofer cabinet. A 1 inch piece has separated. I'm starting to upgrade my equipment from a cheap HTIB system, and this is the first component I've upgraded, so I'm new to this stuff....

You're OK, that's normally called a foam (or rubber) surround so you're good;; we understand what you mean....it's rare for the foam to come loose this early. But CS will take care of you...don't worry!!

+1 Contact Polk CS, you will not be dissapointed. May be a pain to ship and what not, but I promise you will be happy with the result.

maybe they did't get it glued good ,the foam usely last for a long time unless you have it cranked up all with way and have the amp db level cranked up to high and blew it apart.They are very stiff when you first get them ,I just turned mine up a quarter of the way until I get it broke in.That can take 50 hours or more to break them in proper.

Get an RMA form from Newegg and send it back. Let them deal with Polk.

I definitely didn't crank it up all the way. The volume is set to 4, and I haven't changed the db level on the receiver. Newegg won't take a return for this item unless it is damaged in shipment and you refuse delivery.

Have you called Newegg directly? That seems unlike them. I've RMA'd a lot of things through them with no hassles.

I contacted Polk CS by e-mail yesterday and got a response within an hour. Turns out it's just a foam gasket covering the mounting screws. They're mailing me a replacement. Way to go Polk!!

See post 2, 4 and 7, lol. J/K, see I told you they would hook you up. One of the reasons I bought Polks in the first place is because of their CS. Glad they got you all fixed up.
