Looks like I have been approved.

    Thanks for creating the thread.

They suggested I try the Magnum M1.3 series for my system. For the speaker and number of ICs required just for the CD to speaker signal path, the total would be $14K. No point proceeding with this as this won't happen anytime soon.

After looking at the original email I received, its also cool I was selected to start the trial of the Magnum set of cables from the lending library.

MIT is cool as hell for doing this. Wish my system was something they would consider, but that just tells me something about my system. Still, Gavin was really cool about it. He's always answered my questions right away, and been a really cool guy.

I'm afraid to see what "upgrades" they'd recommend.

    Got this email today:

    Dear friend,

The purpose of this letter is to inform you that I have been inundated with requests to borrow from MIT Cables' lending library. In fact, there have been over 4000 requests. This deluge of interest has me buried in a mountain of paperwork. So I apologize if you've been waiting a long time for me to get to your application. I have not intentionally been out of touch... I've just been extremely occupied while trying to get through it all.

As I've been going through the applications, two things have become evident:

    1. I'm doing my best to match the proper cable to your system. Sometimes we don't have a cable in our library that fits the bill. If that is the case, I will let you know and will do my best to find a solution.
    2. We only have a finite number of cables in the library, so as we lend them out, there will most likely be a waiting period before you'll get your turn.

You should be hearing from me real soon about the status of your application.

    All the best,

I finally got around to putting in my request yesterday. I'll get to 'em one of these years, I guess. I knew I should have done it sooner, I knew it and I still procrastinated. Silly me.

LOL, I put in my application a few days after Jesse put up the link. Got denied about 2 days later, but then again I was expecting that. Gavin was very nice and even offered some other possibilities for my to try out. Including getting a pair from one of his dealers at a discount and having a 30 day trial period. Maybe some day I'll take him up on it, for now I am good with what I have. Thanks to Jesse and Gavin for the chance.

UPDATE: Apparently, Mr. Joe Abrams will be taking over all of the lending library applicants that haven't been approved directly by MIT yet. He should need no introduction to this forum....but if you don't know about him? Get to know him if you are in the market for MIT's. ;)

For those who don't know him, just Google Equus Audio and you'll find him in short order.

I've been told they will sound like **** for the first 200 hours or so. The lucky people who are the first to get them.....do you think they are receiving a "broken in" set?

If you are referring to MIT's, they definitely DO NOT sound "****" (just perhaps a little "thin") out of the box.

Two days of burn in (48 total hours) yields 75% and Two weeks (336 total hours) yields 100% of the performance they are capable of delivering. By the way, this guideline applies to most audio and power cables

I believe the cables being circulated have been properly burned in, but it is best to season them a for couple of days in your specific system before critical listening. (at least this is what I've found to be true of my current 100 yards of MIT Shotguns).

I agree but let's just say I wouldn't compare them to other cables until after 350 hours. Mine sounded okay within the two week peroid but the real deal revealed itself after 350 hours. Same with my Sonic Caps and Mills resistors in my 1.2 TL crossovers.

Just got an E-mail from Ken Loughlin, VP of MIT and I guess I am still in the running for a demo on some cables. Due to the great intrest in this demo he has sent my information to a "independent representative" and this was what they said....

"To avoid further delay, we are turning your request over to our independent representative, Mr. Joe Abrams and his MIT affiliate online company; Equus Audio. Joe is now in possession of the entire selection of "loaners" intended for this program." So I am waiting to hear from him as to what I am going to do next. I'll keep ya posted.
