So a friend ordered pizza from one of the big chain pizza places.. and this place is only located about three blocks from his house.. guess where the phone call was answered?

wait for it........

Yup, India.

INDIA??

why in the hell would a pizza chain outsource their pizza orders? what ever happen to the pimply faced 17 yr old taking the order? now it has to go to India, then back here to complete a pizza order? seriously, I am not kidding.

Maybe this isn't new, but i was stunned by it.

What the hell? I am curious as to what chain is doing that, can't be saving any money and how hard is it to seriously have someone pick up a phone and take an order.

I hardly ever order from big chains, just because to me local pizza shops have MUCH better pizza and food in general. But I did order from pizza hut a few weeks ago cause had a coupon for a really cheap pizza. Anyways, same happened to me, someone with a terrible accent took my order, and the **** was trying to keep me on the phone to add things to my order.

hmm I love pizza huts pan pizza but that makes me want to not use them anymore.. I worked for Papa Johns for 1 year and half as a driver/manager, and I think its ridiculous that they would outsource that stuff.. we have enough people in the US looking for work, and its not high paying work at that.. on top of that its awful customer service. people don't want to be talking to someone who they can't understand and can't understand them. very disappointing...

Pizza Hut is to pizza as Jack Kevorkian is to the Medical profession.

Why hire someone in India to do ONE job, when the zit-face 17 y.o. kid can take the order, then go make the pie, take the money for it, then sweep the floor when he's done?

I hope this bites them in the **** to the point of bankruptcy.

It is being done for one reason only. To make executives look good so they will get big bonuses regardless of the company's performance.

The software industry and computer networking industry have been doing this for years, but in this case it helps the executives stock options. These guys are such hypocrites. They whine there are no Amercian college grads in engineering and computer science, and then they outsource the jobs because people would like to be paid for busting their **** in college to actually learn something difficult, unlike MBA grads. Personally, I put an executive who outsources engineering jobs in the same category as a traitor, and they should be treated the same. Rant off.

It's not just software & IT industries being outsourced. It's ANY company that has call centers or data processing work. Outsourcing is HUGE throughout the insurance & financial services sector.

We have gone from probably 50 people who used to do what I do, down to 8 people! And half of what our jobs used to entail are now being done in India.

These executives are selling our country out. Before you know it, India is going to be what our country is now & we are going to what what India once was.

I actually work for a bank that still has an in house customer care department. A lot of people are very very surprised that we would still do everything in America and that when a person here answers the phone its actually in the US and a lot of times we get complimented for it.
Outsourcing is a pain in the butt, and when you can't understand them it makes it even worse. I just got transferred to a department that was in India and I could not understand them what so ever because of the accent. I really really tried, but when your mad and when your dealing with money people want to be able to understand whats going on, and a language barrier makes it only worse.

No sir, it wouldn't! The mere thought alone is enough to get you knifed in an alley!

Me, I don't order from the chains. Living in South Jersey, there is a pizza place on damn near every corner. Hell, there are 9 in the 2 square mile town next to my township and 30+ in my township as well. That doesn't count the chains.

I order pizza from one of two places. One is a place I've been going to since I was a teenager, Santini's. They are easy to remember, 228-8008. Two two eight boob is the phone number. I'll never forget it! Don't even need a menu! Call up, they see the name and number on the caller id and just ask "The usual?" A quick "yep!" and 20 minutes later a screaming hot pizza is in my hands and fogging up the windows! Doesn't get better than that!

Besides, in a chain you don't get the same service. One shop I call up, I can't even remember the name anymore I just know it's Lorenzo and his brother Gianni running it. I call up and they don't even say the name they just look at the caller ID and say "Gianni! (his accent is heavy and he doesn't say Johnny) My friend! What can I make for you today? How is your mother? Is your family well? You tell them we say Hello!" Never once have I gotten that in a Pizza Hut.

Does anyone bother to put themselves in the shoes of others anymore before they come to conclusions?

As soon as people, mainly kids and part-timers, will answer phones for less than $15/hr. (picking an arbitrary number to make a point) the jobs will start to come back. They aren't outsourcing because they don't like America or don't want to keep the jobs here.

So why are they doing it? Profits.

Their margins are thin to start. They're doing anything they can to move volume. They make money on volume. Unlike your local pizza joint that you'll willing pay $20+ to for a pie where they may make a $5 profit on (again, arbitrary number to make a point), the major chains are making far less per pie sold.

All that said....it's annoying as hell to have to talk to someone who you can't understand and is reading from a script. I wouldn't order from a place like that. I'd gladly pay the local joint. The food is better and the service is probably better, too.
