I have not seen HBO's Rome, but have heard from many people that it is a very good show full of everything a guy wants (sex and violence) and is well worth watching.

I have not purchased it up until now, but Amazon is running a good sale (as with most amazon sales - I have no idea for how long). I purchased the complete series (it only went 2 seasons) on blu-ray for $60. They also have it on DVD for $40. Both options come with the standard Amazon free shipping offer.

From what I understand, it was a great series that was cancelled due to high production costs. (season 1 cost about 100 million to make) Once I get it in, I will post a review, but the sale may be over by then....

Thought maybe a few on the board would want to add it to their Christmas list. (or, in my case, just purchase it for yourself :p)

This series was outstanding...buy the Blu Ray and you will not be disappointed.
Looking back, HBO had a great run of series...Sopranos, The Wire, Six Feet Under, and Rome come to mind.

Rome is an excellent offering from HBO. I've watched it at least three times.

Rome is incredible, but almost everything from HBO is, that's why its not tv its HBO haha

The only disappointing thing is the way the series wraps up due to its cancellation. My gf bought me season one on dvd for my b day years ago for $80 and I just ordered the Blu Ray Series for $60 . Great Deal !

Yeah I was disappointed when they cancelled and wrapped up the series the way they did. They left too many story line loop holes.

i know it was almost laughable, but in that sad sorta way... but at least the series up until that point was soo good and for the price amazon has it at, very worth it :D

i encourage all who have yet to experience it to give it a rent!

The excuse was it was to expensive to produce. Maybe that is true, but I suspect with DVD sales they would have made money, but who knows. Personally, I do not subscribe to HBO, but do buy the DVDs when they come out.

Deadwood was another great HBO show canceled before it was finished.

Supposedly, Rome (the movie) is in the works with Ray Stevenson back as Titus Pullo.

Michael, if you're into historical dramas, great acting and storytelling, sex and violence, phenomenal sets (for a TV show), you're going to love this. Not that there aren't any slow points or inaccuracies, they took liberties with history, but you really get a feel for what it might have been like. I pretty much throw an episode on any time I'm bored.

Cool, it's available via Netflix. Just dropped it in my queue. I hate buying stuff that will just set on the shelf after I watch it once.

Lucius was good, I've liked McKidd ever since his role of Tommy. Titus was a little over done, like Stevenson's version of the Punisher. I think the role of Marcus Antonius was played quite well by James Purefoy.

I second that, it is very good. I got goosebumps when Washington was sworn in.

As for the sex scenes, they were kinda hilarious like when Abigail finally visited him in France.

Rome was great but, I enjoyed Deadwood even more. It really sucks that they pull the rug out from under shows like these before they gain an acceptably large audience! Hope the True Blood series lasts a while !!:(

Story of how an individual who at first resisted the idea of seceding from England turned into a revolutionary, ended up the 2nd President of the United States, avoided a popular war, and learned of the fickleness of the American voter.

I finally bought it today, $64 (blu-ray) off Amazon...for the complete series. It'll be here tomorrow, can't wait. I've heard nothing but good on this.
