I will help to win this. Show her the price of a pair of Dynaudio Contour 1.4s and see what her reaction is!

My ex (thank you) was a bit shocked when I purchased a pair of $3600.00 book shelf speakers.:D

"Book shelf" speakers on an entertainment center will end up sounding like crap.
    Time for a big upgrade!:)

Thanks for the input. BUT if i could toss that kind of coin at speakers we wouldnt be having this discussion.

Why has no one else mentioned this before? Arent "book self " speakers designed to sit on anything besides a stand. If I need stands i will keep the RTi8's!
    Sharp Aqous 40" LCD
    Onkyo TX SR-507 AVR
    Onkyo DX-C390 CD Changer
    POLK RTI8 Mains--Cherry
    the rest...in process...slowly!!

Each room will have unique 'constraints' that have to be considered - some of them are under your control to change, some are not (ie -like the WAF, or chosen furniture, location, etc).

You do what you have to do - and get the best arrangement, layout, configuration based on the constraints you have to deal with.

If you have to use bookshelf speakers and they have to go on a bookshelf - then that is what you will end up doing.

You then have to consider what bookshelf will work best: eg maybe a rear ported bookshelf should be rejected over one that is sealed or front ported, etc.....et al.

The HT gods will not strike you down if you put a bookshelf speaker on a bookshelf - do what you have to do to get the best sound and setup with your situation.

Then - relax and enjoy the sonic goodness! :)

H9: If you don't trust what you are hearing, then maybe you need to be less invested in a hobby which all the pleasure comes from listening to music.
