So last night sitting on the couch watching TV, the wife say that she ordered a different media center TV stand and it is gonna be bigger than what we have. Great I'm in for that- then she says since its gonna be wider it will push my rti8s out to wide and that she thinks I should replace the floor stand speakers with book shelf style that will sit on the TV stand-still no problem.
then in all my infinite wisdom I said then we will need to replace the bookself speakers when I get a bigger TV to fill up the bigger stand----
I suppose you all can imagine how that turned out.............

Question, what would be a good book shelf to replace the RTi8's with?
Currently powered by an onkyo 507 with no center, sub or rears yet.
Suggestion or recommendations????

----I will post pictures of current set up and future set up when i figure out how.

Folks talk alot about the WAF...what about the HRF (Husband Rejection Factor) to the WAF? :D

You could always buy some crummy bookshelves that would sound sooo bad that the wife will want you to bring back the RTi8s!

But seriously...I'd say go with some RTiA3s from Polk's Ebay direct, then look for a good sub.

Agreed, the RTiA3s would be a good choice, or a used pair of RT55is.

Too dangerous. Your wife will think the crap speakers sound ok and you'll be stuck with them. When my wife wanted me to get rid of the RTA11TL's, I tried setting up the Monitor 5A's with one tweeter fuse removed. She didn't notice.:(

I still have the RTA's set up and I am hoping she forgets the idea.

I was going to come in here and recommend the RTiA3's. I have a pair of them and really enjoy them. I did feel that i needed a sub to fill in the low end but they are some very nice speakers. You can get them at very reasonable prices on polk direct. If yo udont see them there just wait a little and they will show up. They do tend to go pretty fast though.

After seeing the other recommendations though. I would see if i could get away with some LSi's. 7's or 9's would be great.

Thanks for the insite, I dont think i can pull off $1000 a pair for LSi's and arent the LSi series a 4 ohm speaker? If someone could give me a basic rundown or point me in the right dirrection to read up on ohm ratings and what it means that would be great.
I would love the Big upgrage to the lsi series but the rti's are more realistic. maybe

I dont have an external amp right now, I will be using an Onkyo sr507 so the LSi's might not work for me. Once again I was thinking out loud and said (jokingly) we could just put the rti8's on the new media stand then they would be off the floor.....you can imaging how that went over!

I have a pair of A3's and was considering wall mounting them. After looking into it i decided against it. The A3's are very large inmy opinion and I thought that they would look strange/unusual mounted on the wall where i would need to mount them. Keep in mind they are roughly 9x14x14. So. Some others here have mounted them and they good in their pics but just would not work for me. I ended up getting some stands for mine. The RTiA1's would probable mount easier as they are a little smaller. I have also had a pair of OWM3's and they mounted great and worked out really well as surrounds.

I made a cardboard box roughly thr size of the rti3 and put it on the wall. Not sure I like that option so if I do go this way they will sit on the tv stand. OWM3's would probably be my rears too. Good to hear the two work well with each other.
    Thanks for the input

    Greetings all,
Sorry to bring back an old post but a few more questions regarding this matter.
... If I get the RTIA3 they will sit within 2 inches of my flat screen LCD TV on the new TV stand. is there a problem with speakers so close to a TV?
...and If I were to sell my cherry RTi8's, whats a fair price????
I think this is slowly starting to come together.

No problems with spacing in regards to your tv, only in relationship to each other. If they are too close to each other you will not get very good imaging. If you have them too far apart you'll have a hole in the sound field.

It also depends how far you are going to be apart from them. Generally you want to be no more than double the distance from them that they are apart, depending on the dispersion characteristics of the speaker.

Maybe I can build the rest of the system around the Rti8's and she will forget about wanting the smaller speakers.....
Will the RtiA3 with a sub be a decent set up? I am seriously considering a Surround bar instead if a 5.1 at this point. But if I go 5.1 how would this be:
    RTia3 fronts
    CSia4 center
    OWM3 rears
    and an unknown sub

Well for what its worth - I run RTiA3 as fronts with a CSi3 center and an Epik Sealed Subwoofer (RTi4s as surrounds for 5.1).

I think I get very good sonic performance for music or HT. With the Sub, I get great sound top to bottom with that RTi "sparkle" :D

And with my modified Carver - I can rock da house!!

Anyway the speaker topic came up again and I was wondering about the VM10's or VM20. Whats your experience with the VM line // I an still thinking Rtia3 with a sub but these cought my eye....

I will help to win this. Show her the price of a pair of Dynaudio Contour 1.4s and see what her reaction is!

My ex (thank you) was a bit shocked when I purchased a pair of $3600.00 book shelf speakers.:D

"Book shelf" speakers on an entertainment center will end up sounding like crap. They generally need very good stands and as much, if not more space, to sound as good as floor standers. Also note that you may need much more power to attain the same volume levels that you are used to when using a monitor speaker.

    Time for a big upgrade!:)
