SOOOOO I bought something off videogon (audiogon's brother) and man oh man. First this guy says OBO on his listing. Well I did give him OBO, of like 10 bucks lower. Says no I'm firm on my price and I'm giving you a great deal, well hell if thats what you wanted for it don't put OBO on it. Then he's only does money order. Ok fine I can deal with that. Now he says the same day I"m sending it out to over night it. It cost freakin' 17 bucks to overnight a payment. Fine and he at least agreed to take the amount off the purchase price. Then he tells me a 20lb unit or so is going to cost 50 bucks in shipping and for him to double box. well uhh ok, it was in the original box to begin with anyways so another box shouldn't cost you that much more and 50 bucks seems too high if you ask me.
SO fine whatever say its ok. Ask him when he can send the player, says thursday. Well here we are thursday and I sent him an email asking if the check cleared and everythign ok, no response. As well as he told me he deposted the check 2 days ago. Well he didn't as seeing I work for the bank the check was from and guess what hasn't cleared yet or show anything in regards to the check. (it would show already that it was cashed on our system)
Good lord, I just want the freakin' thing, was supposed to be my christmas preseant and now I'm just hoping I don't get screwed by someone!

Give him a couple day. I understand where you are coming from. Yeah it does seem like a pain in the neck, with the couple of small hoop your jumping through. When Ricardo sent me an ADCOM GFA 555 I believe it was around $30 form mid OH to mid MI and it weighed pounds + shipping materials. I don't know where your shipment is coming from, but if it's from half way across the country that sounds about right. The double boxing thing is great, he just wants to make sure it makes it there in one piece. It does seem a little shady asking for a money order, but look at it from his end, the funds are secure. It's still early in the day, and not everyone has the ability to check e-mail from work. IMO it also seems a little shady to be checking up on some one behind their back. I do understand where you are coming from here, and that you are just watching your back. I am not sticking up for the guy, I don't even know him. Just cool yourself down a little, no need to get all stressed out yet. If you do not hear from him this evening then then by all means get mad, send him an e-mail and ask what is going on, and ask him why he hasn't deposited the payment yet. Let him know you would really like this before Christmas because it is a present. You could also give him a kind reminder that shipping this time of the year is slow because of the Holidays.

    Best luck,
    dude

sorry for being pissy. but yeah, I don't know I guess his bank is having a hard time verifying the check. all it takes is a phone call to a department, 24-7 they are open. and honestly by me checking on the status is not me going behind his back. I work for a bank and even if I didn't, its still something any customer can do at any time. Calling to verify if a cashier's check has been cashed is pretty simple and I don't really see how its going behind someone's back IMO.
I understand how a money order can look shady but in honesty, I can understand the reason why people don't want to use paypal. and this was my first videogon experience so its not the smoothest one for me to start out with. I'm just annoyed as I thought it would be a little smoother and more professional seeing its videogon but yeah.

I wouldn't worry too much just yet Chris. I didn't like from what you told me the other night regarding this seller, considering he didn't even give you the option of getting the item double-boxed and that you had to suggest it. Anyway, hopefully something just came up that got in the way of shipping it out to you. I know there have been times that I couldn't get something out on said-date because I had alot of errands to run, or something came up or I had plans that I had forgotten about.

When you do get it in, I'm almost positive that you'll love it. I just hope it all gets to you in the same condition as stated.

I ended up getting a pioneer blue ray player because I've been wanting to get one for awhile and seeing my parents had no idea what to get me, they just told me to get it myself and gift it to me lol.
Freddy, I'm hoping that is the case, if for some reason I find tomorrow he still doesn't really response I just might cancel the check and buy something straight from the shop I've been going to. Even though it would be more at least I know what I'm getting.
And he acutally did have good feedback thats why I went with him.

OBO goes both ways. It can mean best offer lower than the asking price, but it also can mean best offer ABOVE the asking price. Just so you know in the future.

BTW, Christmas is 3 weeks away.

My rule of thumb has been never pay with anything except Money order or CC. The only way I would ever pay by money order is probably here. Hopefully you get this worked out, if not I would cancel the check asap.

In my experience with buying things with OBO it has never meant more than the price. Typically my understanding is that you would offer what you think it would be worth if you felt the person was too high, never have I seen someone do that, and yes I know christmas is 3 weeks away but again this was a gift to myself as my parents gave me the money to get myself a gift, if i get it early then so be it.

You are young, I'm not. Now, you know that OBO has more than one meaning.

So far nothing. I will give him till monday. If by then I will be canceling the check and deal with someone else. a verfication of a cashier's ck is not hard, all they have to do is call a phone number and it will tell them yes or no that it is valid or even have an option to speak to a live rep who will verbal say yes it is vaild and outstanding or no, it is not valid. so IDK.

Sooooo today at like 5:00 I just got an email. says he's sorry for not responding and stated that not to worry he will have it sent out tomorrow because he couldn't get there today. He did claim the item was 10/10 on the audiogon scale sooo I'm expecting it to be the same when I get it.
If I do not get a tracking number tomorrow I will do a stop on the check and go with someone else, it makes me too nervous about it just sitting out there.

no its not dumb. He so far hasn't cashed the check according to our system. It still shows its outstanding.
No processing happens on the weekends so regardless if he would take it the bank it wouldn't get cashed through the federal reserve, so I can still do a stop regardless.
We'll see, and if he does scam me, well fine then, I've learned my lesson and will be taking him to small claims court.

It was the BDP-05FD. Currently it is showing the check has been cashed. He has not been responding now to about 4 emails I have sent him asking for the information. He did send an email on Friday stating he would send out the player the next day. I having been asking for the tracking information and everything else. If I don't recieve a contact back by tuesday I will be going to authorities to see what can be done.
    Blah, this sucks.

I would put a hold on the check or try to cancel it. Is it too late to do so? Not sure how much you were spending but you can find good deals out there.

Well I can't put it on hold but I can file a claim stating that he forged the signiture as it doesn't even look like anything but a scribble. That way it would start a legal process on our end where we would get information regarding the transaction and make sure it was really him doing it or someone pretending to be him.
I was spending over 300.00 but the player normally goes for around 600-700 so it wasn't a bad deal. I'm just pissed if someone would rip me off like this. He has other items up for sale so I will def make sure I report him to the website so he will get kicked off and never sell again.

Well this sucks. As of today I still have not gotten the player. Its been over a week since he got the money and deposit it. He did send me an email tuesday saying the player was sent on monday but still didn't give me a tracking number. I asked him again today for a tracking number. He said he would send via Fedex and according to their website when I try to search for packages sent to me it doesn't come up with anything besides ones I've already recieved. Man oh man, this sucks....

Keep on him. This is a crappy thing that is happening. Have you looked to see what type of legal recourse you may have? Id you don't get the tracking number soon you will be forced to get the authorities involved. I would also state to him that he did not have to wait for you to send him the money order, and you would appreciate the same courtesy in the arrival of your package.

I really do wish you the best of luck in this situation,
    dude.

I think we may be jumping the gun on this one.

I haven't heard from you lately (my phones weird dude) but I want to say just give it another 2 days or so. I'd say I got pretty selfish when I started dealing with Polk members, messages were exchanged often, contact was kept/etc. But even then, private matters come into play and it can prevent us from meeting someones needs on a deadline. I will agree however that his lack of communication has no excuse.

And Chris, I sure as hell know that if it were you selling me that BRP that you'd even offer to bring it to my place and we'd throw on a movie or something. Unfortunately though, we can't expect that kind of quality reassurance from a stranger on eprey or a/v'gon.

Hope everything works out and you get what you paid for, but if not I'm sure you'd be able to go through videogon if any problems arise.

Hey Freddy, yeah I don't know whats up with your phone either. It will send me straight to voicemail or ring 2 times and then voicemail. but yeah I know what you mean. I just get worried about things and I'm going to give him a bit more time. I can understand if something else with his family or other things can come up, but to me if that is so they all he would have to say is I have some issues right now so it might take longer than expected.
And heck yeah I would offer to bring her down and pop in a movie or two. And that is true we can't always expect reliability. I understand that next time I'll take more precautions with getting stuff.
I just hope it gets here. He stated that I should have it by the end of this week (today). So I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
anywho's thanks for the advice you guys.
Oh and Lee I go to Hi-Fi heaven all the time. I found I love that place. Some guys there annoy me but some are really cool and will take the time to really talk to you.
