In Cieling Speakers

Hi folks, i just put in two in cieling polk speakers on my main floor. I have them wired to a volume control and the volume control to my amp (onkyo). They produce great sound but I have to crank my amp right up to get the volume high enough on the speakers. When I do this the volume control vibrates as I am guessing it is putting to much power through. I have connected the two speakers to front left and front right. I was a little confused at the start as the volume controls were ran with one red, black, green, and blue wires but I am quite sure they are hooked up properly as they are producing sound. SHould I connect these speakers any differently to my receiver or is this an issue with the receiver. Thanks. so much.

    Welcome to Club Polk, zimm!

It would help to know what speakers, what volume control and what receiver you are using. The problem may be that you are using an LCi model of speaker, rated at 4 ohms, along with a receiver that is not designed for 4 ohm use, but I'm just guessing, since I've never worked with the type of setup you are describing (using a volume control, that is). Others may be able to offer better advice with a little bit more information.

The speakers are LCI 60's and the amp is rated for 8 ohms. They seem to be working better lately when I have turned the inteli volume up on the amp I dont have to crank it up so high. I may be justed used to my Pioneer amp downstairs where I am running LCI 80's and the amp has a different volume setting.
