Adcom makes some good budget amps. What kind of budget do you have in mind?

The more power the better. The ones I'm familiar with hearing are powered with around 400wpc. Sunfire, Carver, Soundcraftsmen come to mind if you don't want to spend a lot.

I am currently using a Carver TFM-35x. You can find one for ~$300. I am very happy with the price/performance ratio. To my ear they are a smoother sounding amp than an Adcom. YMMV

I am itching to hear the LS90's with a really high end amp though.

There is a good deal on a NAD integrated in the for sale section that, I can attest to, would sound excellent.

    Yup, cell phone quality :)

I'll get some nice pics up in the future, I'm too busy burying my ears in every piece of audio I have right now.

The combination of quality speakers and the acoustical panels is awesome, imaging is great and vocals are rediculously clear. The low end on these speakers is pretty impressive as well.

Currently being powered by a Sony STR-D1015 but hopefully that will change soon

I'm gonna second that. The only pair of LS90's I ever heard was hooked up to a big power NAD integrated and it sounded awesome.

Come to think of it, every Polk speaker I have ever heard shines when hooked up to NAD gear.

Well I guess I need to start saving for some serious power. In the meantime, would I be crazy to set these up in a HT setup with Monitor 70s as surrounds and a CSIa6 for a center?

Seems like it would be sweet, but Im not sure if it would be practical.

    Thanks

A CS350LS or CS400i would be better for a center because of timbre matching and all, but that is (one way) I use mine. Except I have 50's for rears.

    Mine pull double duty.

Exactly, I'm loving to 2 channel experience these things provide, but I would love to incorporate them into my HT. I just wanted to make sure the 70s wouldn't be too much in the rear. Also, I came across a site recommending the CS400i for the LS90s, but then polk suggested the CSIa6 on their site.

Which is better between the CS350LS, the CS400i and the CSIa6?

    Thanks

I am not familiar with the CSIa6 but if Polk says it's a match, it will probably work fine. I use a CS350LS and my front stage is damn good. Best I have heard in my short travels on the HT road. The CS400i is supposed to be even better.

I don't know how the CSIa6 would be a good match. Totally different tweeters, silk vs tri-lam. I have LS50's and a CS350LS, perfect match. The CS400 is pretty close with the Dynamic Balance tweeter, very similar to the tri-lam IMO.

ken, if memory serves, all 3 speakers 350, 400 and 400i are using the same trilam tweet part number. The differences are the drivers. The CS350LS will be the match, but either CS model will be very similar. The suggestion of an A6 is because this site always recommends the closest match out of the current revs...never a legacy product.

Gotcha! I've compared silk vs tri-lam though and they aren't even close.

One thing to consider is that the CS400/400i do dig deeper than the 350LS. I can run mine large and get excellent bass response. Being 9.5" tall is a challenge for some, but so is the extra width of the 350 which I couldn't accomodate.

Fair enough, I would surely choose a cs400 over the 350, as I can MAKE it fit haha. I have complete freedom in the HT room so size is not a problem.

What is the price difference between the 350 and the 400?

Whatever the market in your area is. I think $150 is a fair price for either, but you can find better or worse deals. I've seen a few CS350LS sell for < $100, but really haven't followed CS400/400i pricing recently. When I bought mine a few years ago for $150, you'd see others offered around $200.

Sounds good, that looks like a fairly accurate price range.

Looking at the different models, it looks like my budget will best be spend on either a CS350ls or CS400(i). I have read that the main difference in the 400 and 400i is the reworked drivers, which will be a better match to the LS90s?

I have no idea which drivers match up better. From what I'm told there's very little difference sonicly between the 400 vs i. All I know is that it's pretty close to timbre matching SDA 1Cs and when I briefly had LS50s here, it was nearly seamless with the 400i.
