Suggestions for a new phone

I need a new phone...My Voyager just isn't cutting it anymore (on second thought...did it ever?).

Seeing as how i'm stuck on Verizon, I was thinking about a Blackberry. I need to have access to email both at work and at home (simultaneously), and the ability to connect through Wifi. I wouldn't mind a Droid at all, but I would never be able to afford the $200-300 price tag.

Any tips/suggestions/horror stories dealing with Blackberry's?

Or even better, any suggestions on other phones that I might have overlooked?

Yeah, the price tag for the Droid is a bit too steep for me and my wife (I work for a school district, she works part time at a grocery store).

Most of what I do on my Voyager right now is texting, and if I could do emails I would. Pictures are important to me (I have 2 kids under 3), but the Blackberrys that i've seen have the same quality camera as the Voyager so I think I could live with it.

The main thing that i'm having trouble justifying is the extra $30 a month, which for me would mean i'm paying $30 a month JUST for emails...

$200-300 for the phone isn't that much compared to an extra $30 a month for the data plan.

I'm into tech gadgets as much as the next guy, but paying $400 for a new phone every year or two on top of $100 a month cell phone bill -- just not worth it to me.

Did you get access to personal and corporate email with the Voyager without a data plan?

No, I still have to pay a monthly fee to use the internet-based email support they offer.

I thought you can get into Driod for 99.99? This is not so?

I want to check out that phone. I have heard mixed comments on it. Some like it some don't. It's supposed to be awesome.

I think that's with a renewed/new contract - if you aren't eligible for a contract renewal then you have to pay full price.

Blackberrys are email and txt machines. You can get up to 10 email address going to them at one time. Though no BB that Verizon sells right now does 802.11

The Droid is most likely what you want if you have to have 802.11. I have a friend that got a crazy deal last week from Best Buy on his Droid. Not sure if they are still doing that deal and I cannot remember what he paid but it was less than the $199 after rebate that they are selling through the retail stores.

I use BBerry 9000 Bold. It's like one of those things where you are always connected. So much so, there's no excuse for not answering mail/texts/calls. I'm always looking for the red light to blink for notification.

The blackberry's limitations are limited apps (as compared to iphone). The Droid is awesome, great screen, keyboard is a little goofy, good camera (not great, 5 mp) and the apps available are at about 12,000 now for the the droid. I know the iphone has about 15 trilliion apps but who needs that many? The best part is Apple and ATT are not needed for the droid. The iphone would be good if ATT didn't suck so much. Go with the Droid. $149.00 with the Verizon upgrade.

The Droid is a nice piece of equipment. Also, the Droid is linked to Google. Google is the 500 lb gorilla these days and is the only hope to F#CK with Apple/ATT and Emperor Jobs.
