Your daughter must have used her feminine wiles, since they charge 180 bucks to replace JUST the glass, and I don't even KNOW how much to replace the LCD. I'll certainly try - it costs nothing to go by and ask - but let's just say I'm not holding my breath.

She found an online site to replace the screen and LCD for just over $100, but wanted to check with Apple first to see what they would chrarge since she didn't really want to ship it off for repair. Didn't even ask for it to be fixed under warranty.

As I recall, you posted your photo on the fourm. I think I understand why they may be charging you twice the normal rate...;)

So I decided to disassemble my iPhone, mostly because I always wanted to and this seeemd liked a good excuse. The LCD seems to be untouched, just the glass touchscreen is cracked, so I ordered a new screen for less than 30 bucks shipped, and will see how that goes.

Here's the pic I promised. You can see the broken screen and the unblemished LCD (as well as my OCD organization of the screws I took out).

Awesome bro, hope you can get it fixed yourself. Nothing better than DIY, later on others may come to you for service for a small fee.

I was worried about that happening so I got a pretty heavy duty cover for mine. You can see it here

I got it at the apple store. I would have linked there, but they are doing maintenance.

The otterbox case is another heavy duty case. I used Squaretrade when I got my phone.

If you wouldn't mind , could you post a step by step on how you repaired it? I'm very interested in this. After my son broke his if this happens again, I'll fix it myself.

    Good luck with your repair.

Phase 2 - got the glass removed. Pain in the ****, but still not as bad as the videos I've seen. Took me about an hour of careful prying and poking.

Now just have to wait for the new screen to arrive.... stupid mail.

I miss my iphone, but am loving my Droid. I like the touchback feeling of the screen and that insurance is actually an option through Verizon. If AT&T had better than decent coverage I would by all about the 3GS, but I had to make a decision based on coverage.

Received and installed the new touchscreen last night, and while it 'worked', my LCD is still dead (I was hoping the connector for the LCD was just loose, as apparently this is a common problem after drops.) SO I either have to spend another 30 bucks on a new LCD in the hopes that that is all that is wrong (rather than something "internal") or just wait it out. Still debating.

So I was out at a pub crawl this weekend, and managed to drop my iPhone onto a tile floor at a bar and completely smash the screen. I've seen some broken screens where they still functioned, but this one is COMPLETELY destroyed, so the LCD underneath must have been damaged as well.

I'm not eligible for a "phone upgrade" until January 9th, so I'll be using an old phone until then. I don't know if I can last that long; the iPhone is definitely an addiction.

My home button just took a **** and had to revert back to a MOTO RAZR. Trust me i feel your pain. Gotta wait till after Xmas before i can get a new one.

Is it just the home button that's broken? If you're at all mechanically inclined that seems like something you might be able to replace. Or possibly bring to the "geniuses" at the iPhone store to fix.

That was until i ripped the back off. Its the 2g and are alot harder to fix. I found out the hard way. Now speakers and HB are shot. No biggie. Been wanting to upgrade to another phone. Possibly Droid or the new HTC or another used iPhone from CL.
