I guess it's okay as long as you don't get stinky with your winky.

What?
I know lots of people in white collar jobs with no union that have free insurance and very good 401k's
My wife works in a white collar job and her insurance is paid for 100%, mine costs $100 per month.
She puts in the maximum amount in her 401K, $680 a month and they match up to $220 per month.
I was talking about construction and they are blue collar jobs. Sorry, I should have made that clear. As to your wife, if they could figure out how to have her job done cheaper and outsource some of it out you can bet that the company would. She is lucky that she has the 100% paid health plan, most people don't anymore.

Hey guys and ahem gals. This is about a person that needs help. Lets leave all the side issues aside. Ben, its your thread for assistance and you need to make clear this situation. No need for opposing sides of the theory. Everyone intends to help and listen, but you also need to moderate your thread. Sorry guys, too much tension in a help me thread. The OP should be the center of attention and help here, not the side arguments.

um...Ben is offline. I think he has been trying to moderate it. If Ben is really worried about it all he has to do is put who ever he doesn't want to correspond with on iggy.
-
And you are? His advisor? Um.. Let the man speak for himself. Everyone spoke because they cared to educate the situation. The advice whether nice or not were based on things they viewed as right. right?

1st off take a look back. I actually talked with him on the phone tonight about it.

Ben,
Call this number:
866-215-4879
That's Anthem BCBS Individual Sales for Georgia. I have no idea what the rates will be like, but do be sure to be up front with them what your issues are, and see what a policy with NO pre-existing will run through them, if it's even plausible.
Unfortunately i don't have much experience in the private sector of health insurance, but i do have large knowledge of the National Business sector, and the majority of that will carry over. Pretty much the only questions i CAN'T answer are about policy costs, so send me a PM or ask away in here if you have any questions, i'll keep an eye on this thread.I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

Totally agree with 1 & 2.
George, you always bring such a serene tone to the conversation. I think this one needs it. Well done Sir.Michael

I don't understand all the hulabaloo here. The poor guy has cancer markers, his liver is shot, and his spine is shot among other things. He's been trying for years to get insurance from the private sector as well as from welfare and has hit a brick wall at every turn. He's even reached out to Social Security and is getting the run-around there too. There are also issues with his wife where he was dropped from her insurance. So he is reaching out to his Polk family for some sugestions. I don't think he is looking for sympathy just some suggestions to get insurance so he can get treatment for his issues and maybe live a few more years.
If I were in his shoes I would desperately be seeking advice too. -
nicely said.

Brass tacks:
1)You will not be able to purchase insurance in the US
2)You will be dead or broke on a pretty short timeline unless something changes
3)You will default on your mortgage sooner or later.
So here's the options, Ben:
1)Rely on care via non-profit hospitals (see prior posts) This is good for emergencies, not too good for chronic conditions.
2)Find a job which provides insurance and has fixed price long and short term disability. Not sure what your education & experience are, but you're looking at a couple million worth of healthcare expenses, so you can pretty much ignore whatever pay that they're offering. Take a crap job & get insurance.
3)Start calling Ben Nelson.
4)A trip to Europe is cheaper than a trip to the hospital. Read up on the exact policies of each country, pick one that works. A lot of countries will treat foreign nationals. You won't be getting the newest, best chemo, but you're for damn sure not going to get it here, either. (And new chemo is kinda hit or miss- but that's a different discussion). Complain about illegals, but they're not idiots. If you can't get care via 1-3, you're gonna be broke, so why not be broke in an interesting country? You're not going to be able to pay your mortgage, so get all the money you can out of your house, cut ties, and buy a ticket.Gallo Ref 3.1 : Bryston 4b SST : Musical fidelity CD Pre : VPI HW-19

Gee. Is this a real example of what is currently being discussed in the Senate?
Yeah, hang in there for awhile and you will have mandatory health insurance for only a few grand a year. Oh wait, thats just the fine for not having it. I'd just go to the ER.Vinyl, the final frontier...
Avantgarde horns, 300b tubes, thats the kinda crap I want... -
I can see it from both sides of the debate. If things in the political world were not happening as they are at this exact moment, it probably would not have gotten as heated in here.
Fact is, you don't need health insurance at this point. You needed it before, but now its too late. That's how insurance works. You don't drive around for years without car insurance and then run to All State or Geico when you rear end someone. Likewise for health insurance.
I wish you good luck in finding help, others have posted good ideas about groups and hospitals to speak with. As far as taking flak for your situation, just understand not everyone has the same viewpoint. Just as easily as you could point to your situation and blame the system, someone else could point to you and say you are partly responsible for breaking the system. -

Ben, If you need 80K of services and have a near $0 net worth as you stated above, you MUST find a private entity that will provide what you need at no or little cost to you.
It's beyond judging, Polkies, give Ben names/links/numbers of charity hospitals within driving distance of N Central Georgia.VTL ST50 w/mods / RCA6L6GC / TlfnknECC801S

Ben-
I just tuned in; sorry to hear of your problems. I'm reading some sensible advise here in the last few posts.
The US health care system is too expensive for you. That is a simple fact; we can follow with dozens of posts about the good or evil of that, but it is a fact that you must come to accept. Fortunately, there are many offshore hospitals with excellent care. The Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok LINK is an example of a fine hospital that offers health care that compares very favorably with the care offered by US hospitals. I have been there myself and I can say that I would not hesitate to send a loved one there. You'd think it was the Four Seasons if you wandered in off the street. Their excellent web site offers pricing for dozens of procedures.
Check the web site for the stastics but you will find that a very large fraction of the professionals there were trained in US universities. The costs are very low. Hip replacements, as an example, run about 10 to 12K, a tiny fraction of what they cost in the US. Travel to Bangkok is not that expensive and you will be able to live there for about a grand a month. If you need a local contact, PM me and I'll set you up with a US expat who can probably offer you some assistance.
Good Luck. I don't envy your situation.

Ben I wish I could help you but my only suggestion is to move to Canada for free medical care.
I also started to my own business about 8 years ago. I kept my Cobra health insurance after I left my other company. My Cobra payment started out about $300/month. After 3 years it went up to $1500/month. They basically doubled it every year and there was nothinmg I could do about it. I am diabetic and if I missed a few payments I would be canceled and have NO Options for getting any insurance at any cost. I ended up joining the herd and working for a company that suplied insurance.
You are screwed in this country if you want to start your own business or work for your self and have medical insurance. -

That's obsene! -
Sorry Troy I am at wits end with this crap. Immigrants that paid no taxes are considered for health care way above me:mad:
Bingo! Prison, ben! (I've heard) They have awesome healthcare.
So someone splain to me again how felons having good HC benefits, but if it passes for the rest of the working stiffs it's socialism?
+1 what the other guys are on about community type H.C. In Norman they've got an organization called Health for Friends which is funded by donations, physicians giving their time & expertise for people in a tight spot.
I'd be amazed if Atlanta didn't have something on the magnitude of 10x that.
