Sure, I have lots of advice.

If you can't afford insurance....look at your expenses, figure out what you can eliminate, reduce, minimize. If you still haven't got enough to pay for the insurance....look at what you have for assets and start liquidating.

    That's a start.

Troy I literally have next to nothing but a pair of GFa-565's, a 545, and my speakers plus a few tools.

Look man, I don't know what you have/don't have...I'm just saying, it's an expense like a mortgage or car insurance. You have to fit it in you budget....if you don't, it's a gamble. A gamble, by definition, means that it may bite you in the ****.

Lemme ask this: do you have a cell phone, cable/internet, smoke? I mean, there is always a way to shave expenses...

Ben - you need to go to a faith-based healthcare provider/hospital. You also need to seek one out in the nicer areas of town, not one in the urban areas where everyone is seeking care without the ability to pay. Healthcare providers in the higher demographic areas typically have trouble meeting their committments for charitable care, and faith-based healthcare providers have the most lenient programs for charitable care.

    Good Luck!

Ben - I'm not going to judge your situation, or why you're in it. TroyD has some good points that apply to some friends I have also. What you don't know is that I work with healthcare providers from an data management and software perspective with tools that help them meet their quota's for charitable care. I know that a lot of hospitals actually need to give out more charitable care. See the above and give it a try. It's not the insurance you need, but it might help you get some immediate help until you can figure out the insurance stuff.

Thanks again. My internet sucks. I smoke about $10 a month in cigs. Again unless you have something to add. I have only a cell phone, and don't gamble. My TV is via antenna. What is your next angle to attack me? I'm ready. I am not trying to get anything but advice.
    Thanks so much.

    ????

Ok, eff me. Well, if that's the case....then unless somene has health insurace for the price of, oh, on the house, then you are f*cked then. Then in that case, you are at the mercy of the hospitals, in which case...yes, indigent care is a mandate.

BTW, where did I attack you? I did no such thing. You've been around here long enough to know, if you post it, it's open for discussion.

Oh, stop with the horseshit Ben....yeah, everything is the immigrants fault. That's a pantload and you know it.

If you are looking for a pity party...which is what I'm gathering, because 'affording' insurance seems to be out of the question.....well, that's never been my bag.

    A hospital?

    Shot in the dark.

I would google free clinics in Atlanta. We have a couple here in Fayetteville that are funded by private donations and volunteers. The United Way is usually a clearing house of charitable services. I'd also investigate some of the larger churches in the area....many of them have some sort of health care services.

only respond if you have first hand knowledge of the insurance.
    Thanks
    Ben

You will not be able to afford insurance with pre existing conditions unless you hit the lotto. As some members have suggested charity care will be the most economical. The Hill-Burton act reqires non-profit hospitals to give a % of care to be able to receive federal funds.

    Good luck

Ben, I'm with the others that think that your best shot is to get help from a charity organization. Health insurance in your conditions will not be affordable, period.

    Best of luck.

Ben, while I hardly know you, I figured I would spare you the high and mighty speech about healthcare and offer some actual advice / help. If you would like, PM me your specific issues...my wife is an RN and maybe she has some advice. She will not mind, as she gets family & friends seemingly calling every other day with health related questions.

    Ben,

Good luck with your situation. I have no recommendations or suggestions to make that could help you:(

One possible solution is to marry a woman with a good job. Many of the better healthcare programs have the open enrollment period where immediate family can get enrolled WITH pre-existing conditions. I know this may seem far fetched, but you never know. Good luck!

Sorry to **** on your thread, Ben.

As others have said I think the best thing, consiering the pre-existing conditions, is a charitable organization of some type. My wife and I have been doing research recently when I changed jobs and found that anything pre-exisiting, whether an illness or pregnancy, really changes the whole game.

If you have a particular ailment, maybe there's a hospital or research facility nearby doing a trial on it? Just a thought. Either way, good luck my friend.

It's the diff in jobs in this country that are non union and union. Union jobs have health insurance of some sort or another and varies in payments and coverage. Non union jobs don't have health coverage and it is rare if they do have it. Right to work states have more non union labor then states that have closed shops (have to join the union within 30 days of working on the job). Large corporations in this country love to have fatories in states that are open and the worker doesn't have to belong to a union. They pay good wages, but not so with benifits like healthe insurance and pension plans or 401 K's.

I'm not lashing out, I read every single post in this thread.

Ben is asking for advice about insurance and Troy had some smart **** remarks about him not spending his money well and not making plans to have insurance, and now that he's 39 he shouldn't be thinking about getting insurance, that maybe he shouldnt have bought a house, or had cable internet, or gave up smoking just so he can have insurance.

None of Troy's posts in this thread assisted Ben in getting insurance, Troy's posts were you should have done this, or you should stop spending money on that and this so you can afford insurance.

My Dad pays $893 a month for insurance for himself and my Mother, Not everyone can do that, not everyone can afford to that for their whole lifetime. For my Dad it was east, he retired at 43, he owns 3 houses that he paid in cash and it was very easy.

Some people don't have goverment jobs with free health insurance or they work with jobs that don't have insurance.

I worked for many years without insurance and at that time in my life I couldn't afford it. Right now my insurance costs $100 a month because my wife gets her's for free. But if it was $893 then we wouldn't have it either!

As as said, I'm very empathic towards Ben. I really do wish him the best...but there are some things to consider:

If you are 39 with health issues....and you are now just trying to obtain health coverage...and you are putting it on an audio forum for advice?? Yes, that does sound off some warning bells for me....which prompts me to ask some questions...and, yes, some of those questions are to prompt you to look at where your money is REALLY going. Everyone wastes money on things, the thing is, we often don't realize it. I've been in financial binds...and that meant REALLY looking at expenses and eliminating anything I could to save money.

Next, it appears that it isn't a case of 'getting' health insurance....because, regardless of how affordable the premiums are, he can't afford them. In which case, we are looking at charitible institutions (which I DID have some suggestions for).

I do maintain that in many cases, it's a case of building the ark before it rains.

If that ruffles someones feathers, so be it.

As for where my next tour is....well, again, we all live with the consequences of the decisions we make. I decided to make a career out of the military....the consequences of which are I spend a good deal of time away from home. I don't whine about it, it is what it is. If that's funny to Sal, that's his bag.
