I'm freaking out. I need my friggin yahoo mail.

Has anybody had any problems with it lately?

Evey thing is normal except for the fact that I don't receive any emails at all.

This started about three days ago when I got an email from Yahoo. Saying if I didn't follow the link provided and sign in. My mail would be suspended?? I followed the link and it took me to the sign in page for yahoo. I signed in as normal and no emails since. I'm wondering if it was actually from yahoo. I'm afraid it might of been something to screw up my email account.

If anybody has any ideas PLEASE let me know!

I can get into my Yahoo email fine.

I hate to say this, but that sounds like a phishing scam. When you went to the link did you type in your username and password? I hope not.

^^ Agreed. My yahoo email works fine. Did you hover on the link and confirm that it came from Yahoo? or some other website like illscrewyouremail.com?
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

That doesn't sound good. It's always a bad idea, AFIK, to follow a link from an e-mail. It might have been wiser to just go to your e-mail account and sign in there. I don't use a Yahoo account, so I'm not sure exactly how you can fix this, but I would use an alternative account while you try and sort it out.

If you don't already have an alternative account, gmail would be a good place to set one up IMO (it's what I use as a secondary account), or you may already have one that you don't use with your internet service provider (they usually give you one automatically).

Heres the email. It looked alot prettier in actual email. There were a bunch of yahoo logos same colors and sizes. Looked very professional. At least at first glance. I never even thought for a second it wasn't from Yahoo. Now I have serious doubts.

So what the worse that could happen and what do I need to do?

I've been looking through my mail and ti appears that some of my normal mail if not all of it is going to my spam folder...

    Sigh.. This sucks!

Your account has been compromised bro. You should contact yahoo immediately and have them recover the account or suspend it. Definitely a phishing scam bro.

Wow, people actually fall for those scams?

No legitimate site or business will ever send out an email saying "click this link and enter your password." Ever. C'mon man.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

You should contact Yahoo and tell them about it and set up a new account with a new password.

Nik, I suggest close the account and setup and new one. If you use Yahoo shopping, then update all those accounts with new passwords, and start over with the new yahoo account. Trace all your old yahoo emails sign-in that you've been used for online shopping and update them all. Good luck, is not the end of world, but definitely PITA to do.

Obviously they do. I did. I've never even received anything remotely like this. And didn't know they did things like this. I've seen the money order scams and what not from different countries. But this was nothing like that. Looked legit to me for the most part...

Oh well. You live and you learn. Won't ever happen again.

Actually, you're being a bit harsh on Nikolas IMO. Every month, I get a e-mail from my Credit Card saying that my statement is ready, with the option to click on a link to take me to the sign in page. I don't use the link as a precaution, but it is available for those that want the convenience.

This doesn't seem any different from the link provided in the message Nikolas got.

I agree Kex. Just because you are on a message forum on the internet does not mean that you are into computers. There are more people that don't know about these phishing scams than do know. That's how these scammers get people and steal money.

The simple fact that this isn't a regular occurrence would have been my first clue.

Do what Zeros suggests and learn from the experience. It's all you can do.

    Did it.

Thank you for the link Zero.

I changed my password and reported the email.

I'll still haven't figured out how to start receiving my emails yet. I wonder if there is a way to reset my email account or something. I really don't want to start a new account unless I have to. That would a major PITA. Everything is linked to this one email address...

I guess, I didn't mean to be harsh but I just hear about these scams so often I'm surprised when I hear of someone falling for them. I guess if you had never heard of them there's no reason NOT to though; there needs to be a "basics of the Internet" out there for the non-techy of you :)

I would hate to have to just abandon an existing primary account too. Maybe Yahoo can sort it out properly so that you won't have to, but it's still useful to have a secure secondary account handy (one that you don't give out to anybody, for example, so it doesn't get compromised in any way). You may have to change your password again, after the Yahoo fix.

another thing you can do is reset your password. After that change all of your hints for recovering your password in case you forget it. For all the stuff in your spam folder that you want to return to your inbox, just check one occurrence of the e-mail addresses you want to return to your in box and click on the arrow next to mark, then click on clear flag.

Good luck, might want to check your credit card transactions, bank account(s) and any other personal accounts for transactions you did not make, and follow up with the institutions to cover your butt.

    Hope all is well,
    dude

Yeah Nikolas... if this was your primary acct. and you had a lot of personal/banking/etc. emails saved then you have some more cleanup work to do.

Act as if your bank acct. and CC accts. have been compromised as a precautionary measure. Report the breech to all concerned parties and take whatever action they recommend. Believe me when I say that a little paranoia now is worth the hassle. ID theft can be devastating and you have handed the scammer most if not all of the info they need to do some damage. Be proactive and you will be better off for it.

Edit: if you are not receiving email at that address, check to see if the attacker has forwarded the acct to another address. If so, make note of that address for the authorities.

They can up to a certain point. About a month ago my wife had all of her emails deleted from her account. This was due to a service called "Other Inbox" that apparently is supposed to organize your email for you automatically and things that are subscription/spam type emails go to your "Other Inbox." Well something glitched and it deleted everything in her inbox and she wasn't receiving any new emails either. Yahoo was able to restore it to before all the emails were deleted. The first thing they said to do was to change her password so that "Other Inbox" would no longer have access to her account. Since then, no problems. Change your password and call Yahoo, ASAP! When you get someone on the phone, ask for someone in Tier 2 support because in my experience, Tier 1 = FAIL. Good luck man! Hopefully they can get it back to where it was before.
I know just enough to be dangerous, but don't tell my wife, she thinks I'm a genius. :D

Are you sure about this? I don't think any of my banking or credit card e-mails include any informaiton that might help anyone access them, since even the account number isn't mentioned (other than the last four digits). What I would do, though, as a precaution is make sure none of the accounts linked to in any previous messages use the same password as the Yahoo account. He might also want to clean up his PC as completely as possible, including spyware and malware, or even reinstall it from scratch ...

I can think of at least one attack vector that just requires me being able to receive his email.

    Nik,

I would go over every setting on that mail account. Check and make sure your security question and answer has not been changed. Also, if there is a backup email address make sure that has not been changed either. Check all your filters and security settings and and make sure no domain names were added or deleted from your "allowed " list.

So far nothing seems to be tampered with. Bank accounts and what not.

But they had my emails forwarded to the above email address. I only wrote it up there for quick reference. Because I already deleted it.

Kex if you see this will you send me an email. Or anybody for that matter. I think you can do it by clicking on my name. Shoot, if some one just wants to shoot me a PM. That will work to. I just want to see if I'm receiving email again...

I changed the password earlier today.

I guess I'll change all my other passwords also. I used that password for almost everything. What a pain.

Will somebody shoot me a PM or something so I can see if I am receiving emails again?
