Hospitalized?! Me!?

Well, Im in the hospital for a perforated Mekell's (have to check that spelling) diverticullum. I guess 2% of the population have a Mekells, less than that have any problem with it and the chances of having a perforated one puts me up with winning the lottery or being struck by lightning. The only device I have for online use right now is an iPod touch, so I won't get terribly detailed, but they removed about 10in of small intestine to fix this. Yippie!
Anyway, I was suffering on Friday and Saturday, but was feeling better Sunday. I made a deal with my wife that I would go to a doctor Monday, though, just in case it was something worthy of medical care.
After the worst CT scan ever and it was determined I needed to be cut open and have my intestines looked at for this rare bird. The surgeon was stoked, to put it mildly.
I've been told that recovery is slow for intestine surgery and I've not eaten anything in days, so I'm pretty hungry. I guess I'll be getting some time off from work as well, even though I work a desk job. Hopefully I'll still get to submit designs for the Polk Audio Hitmaster Tshirt Competition, though! Seems like something I can do from home...

Thanks guys. The Doc just came in and told me the area was infected when they operated as well so they couldn't stitch me up too tight... Loose looking staples... Kinda gross looking. And surgery was Monday, so up until a couple hours ago morphine was keeping me busy, but they've switched to percocets... I'm pretty sore, but doing well. Again, thanks for the prayers and healing thoughts; I'm a firm beleiver that it helps!

    Lol @ nurse joke...
This last shift has been a real bunch of... Um...

Anyway, I graduated to a full liquid diet tonight. I hope to go home tomorrow or tomorrow night, where I'll definitely listen to some tunes and try to relax a bit. Because of swine flu scares they won't let anyone in the hospital to visit under the age of 14, so I haven't seen my son in a few days.
You guys are awesome though... And when Im no longer on pain meds, maybe my attention span might be well enough to actually type on here.
    Thank you again guys!

That wasn't a joke, my sister died as a result of being forced to walk too soon after a very similar surgery. Don't shake things around too much for a while, until the re-section has had time to bond together. Just sayin....:)

Jeeze... Well they have me walking. They haven't told me when I can leave though. And even though I work a desk job, they are still talking about some time for recovery before I go back to work. But I swear it's pulling teeth to get my pain meds. I think they are discriminating against me being young; they think I'm in less pain or something.

Walk, walk, walk! There are several good reasons to be up and around. The last thing you need is a post op ileus (paralysis of the gut), and being up and around helps a lot with that. It also promotes the flow of air into the deep passages of your lungs to keep you from getting pneumonia. That's why they had you doing the ball-sucking thing (incentive spirometry) before they allowed you out of bed. Also, being up walking helps keep you from getting a clot in your legs.
