Inexpensive as in less than 500, 1000?
Lot's of people here like the old Denon DVD 3910-a universal player that does SACD and DVD-audio...you can certainly find a used one for less than 500 easily...maybe even 300.
Maybe some of you guys have an extra you could sell to daboyz??

+1. They can also still be bought from Oppo refurb for $130 with a 12 month warranty. I have one that is used as a dedicated hirez disk transport and could not be happier. There is a VERY extensive thread on the 980H on AVSForum.com that will tell you all you want to know, and then some.

I would recommend the Pioneer Elite DV-49AV as a quality and low cost solution.
You can usually find this for well under $200. I own two and purchased a third for my son.

That is cheap! There are also some Yamaha Universal players...lower end that do SACD probably 100-200 used.
But people who have Oppos really seem to love them?

You could get one of these before the price goes up further. I got two of them in June for less that $80 each.

For audio get the Denon 2900. Stock is good, but a few simple mods you have a killer player!

I have a Pioneer Elite DV-48AV for sale in the Klipsch forum garage sale. It is one of the few players that outputs SACD's in their native DSD form through HDMI. It sounds very good through my Yamaha RX-V3900 receiver. I am asking $75 shipped for it with a free HDMI cable. It is in mint condition. http://community.klipsch.com/forums/t/126648.aspx

The main advantage to using DSD for me is that it allows better bass management (through the receiver, instead of the player), especially the crossover. Without it, there seems to be a default setting of 80Hz or 100Hz in players like these, which is much too high for my tastes (with my speakers), unless of course the subwoofer is not being used at all for music playback (in which case the speakers would get a full range signal, obviously).Alea jacta est! -

You might look at a Cambridge Audio DVD89, which does DVD-A and SACD. I've got one in black you can have for $125 shipped if you are interested, as I haven't used the SACD portion of the player for quite some time.Tschüss

Ironically, I have a Cambridge DVD89, that I bought off of Dave!(daboyz). It is a very nice entry level universal player. It's served me well for quite a while now.
I'm actually thinking about selling it, now that I've got my Denon 2910. I'm not sure yet...I may end up giving it to my niece for Christmas...she needs a new CD player for her stereo. I don't know yet though...
Would you happen to be interested if I decide to sell it Dave? I'll give you right of first refusal on it.The nirvana inducer-

I picked up a couple of Sony factory refurbs of the 555ES and we use one of them at the shop. The other has already been promised to a fellow Polkie who plans on modding it I think. If you have a Sony Style store near you check there as they often have stuff coming and going regularly and you could get lucky."Thats great... but how does it sound"

Well, I shoulda bought the one PE for $75 but there were wifey issues that got in the way. I've been trying to work a deal for another one to no avail. The others unfortunately I believe to be overpriced for what I've seen them go for.
I know they're from Polkies but I'm not in a huge hurry so I will shop til I get my price. -
I would not sell my Pioneer or my Denon for less than 250.00, each cost at least 1000 new and generally used is 1/3 of new, so what is being asked is less than that, you prob should of jumped esp on the one Doro linked you to, but that is the way it goes, maybe someone here will karma you one.
You might just buy a new OppO its like 169.00 or some such thing, but it wont match the Denon's or the Pioneer's mentioned.
Somebody might hold one and let you pay as you can, a layaway sort of thing. If you get an inexpensive player you might consider one of the tube buffers as well to help the sound along.
